Advantages: Slightly better than stuffing cash in your mattress

Disadvantages: Pray to God you never have a problem cuz they have zero service

Suggest they change their name to F-Trade since it’s the grade they deserve. One day my brokerage account didn’t appear when I logged on. Was told they had to restrict access for 5 days to allow a recent electronic funds transfer to clear. That’s a lot of crap. The reason for electronic transfers is to reduce the clearing process to 24 hours or less. I waited 5 days, and still couldn’t access my account. Sent a blizzard of emails and made several calls. Lots of promises, but was never able to access my account. Finally had to transfer the entire account to a real brokerage firm, which took 6 weeks. Do yourself a favor. Instead of sending your money to Etrade just flush it down the toilet. It’s quicker, cheaper, easier and you have a much better chance of seeing it again.

Summary: Find another broker; ANY other broker
