I tried to fund my UK equities account via their online service. I paid 4000 pounds with my debit card. HSBC processed the payment so the money is not on my bank account anymore but ETRADE validated the payment then rejected it for no obvious reason (their customer service which are helpless just read to me the same email i received saying there may be a slight difference of address on my Debit Card). It will take 7 Business Days for the money to be back on my bank account. Basically it takes 1sec to take money from your card but it takes up to 7BD to send the money back! EVen in the third world it is faster! This is a joke!!!

I agree with the general consensus here. eTrade are rubbish. They hold on to your money, and make it really difficult to get it back. They keep losing documents and charging you 28% Tax - because you haven't proved you aren't a US tax payer. they call it WITHHOLDING - I call it STEALING!!!. Read their charges - its $25 to get money out, $10 for them to send you a cheque in US currency.
This review is for eTrade.com - but I'm sure its run by the same bunch of cowboys as eTrade.co.uk

Etrade are best avoided. Their admin is appalling and every time they make system changes they either 'lose' your account or all your holdings are wrongly displayed.
It usually takes them a few days to respond to any query and you are unable to trade until it is all put straight.
They refuse to offer financial compensation for their errors and incompetence!

I've had a few problems with e*trade recently - first of all etrade.co.uk does not work under firefox or earlier versions of internet explorer - I'd thought their servers were down. I emailed them about it - no response. I phoned them and they said "oh yeah - we know about that". Thanks! Then getting them to transfer money ... Read the complete review

Suggest they change their name to F-Trade since it’s the grade they deserve. One day my brokerage account didn’t appear when I logged on. Was told they had to restrict access for 5 days to allow a recent electronic funds transfer to clear. That’s a lot of crap. The reason for electronic transfers is to reduce the clearing process to 24 hours ... Read the complete review

E*Trade used to be very poor, both online and with their help desk, and I was very close to changing to another online site. I have been a member for over a year now, and I must say that over the past 6 months they have become very good. Initially money was going from/to my account weekly for no reason - I didn't know where I was from ... Read the complete review

I has an E*Trade(UK) account for six months in 1999. Overall, I found the service *very* poor indeed - I'm mystified that ETrade seems to do well in surveys of online brokers. Just some of my complaints are, = Delays of up to 2 hours in executing orders. = Intermittent error messages for no apparent ... Read the complete review

I opened an account with E*Trade over 1 year ago, and have had no trouble with the at all really. I like their website. It is easy to navigate, and gives lots of relevant information on the companies of your choice. They give commentaries on the markets too which are really helpful. Let the trader be ware though, gather info from as many ... Read the complete review

E-trade, yet another online stock broker. It has a presence bot in the UK and the US. It offers the first three trades free and the rest at around £15 a trade. This is a reasonable deal but not the best on the market. I have heard of stories of e-trade mixing up accounts, losing customer’s money and having very poor customer ... Read the complete review
