Advantages: I now have some double glazing
Disadvantages: I've not got what I was promised, or paid for!!!
Myself and my wife (they insist on both being present at the time) had an unsolicited phone call in May, offering government back reductions, and booked an appointment.
The salesman arrived, and we made our requirements very clear, they would have to be sash double glazed, and installed as the existing sash double glazed were (These are manufactured by Quickslide in Yorkshire). I also gave him the ball-park figure I had from another supplier to fit more of the same, so he knew where we were coming from.
He promised A Rated units, Ecoseals own employees (I was concerned that sub-contractors become more of a lottery), and a Fensa Certificate. The promised quality was sufficient to make us pay significantly more for these windows.
I have received none of these. I now have B rated windows (manufactured by Quickslide), fitted by sub-contractors, and Fensa will not certificate, because the installation process is classed as a repair (this has been validated by a surveyor), and two soiled carpets, and a soiled childrens chair. The installation took place on 3rd and 4th July. Obviously if I have known this, I would have been able to choose the far cheaper Company, as they offered the same product, with no certification. It would probably have been the easiest decision of my life.
This was financed by Hitachi Capital, so we will be claiming under S.75, as the goods have been mispresented, and holding one or both parties liable, but I am concerned that this practice is still going on. Ignoring the fact that the salesman (Alan Shenton) was prepared to look at my existing windows, take my existing quote (£3600), knowing they would supply the same window, and charge so much more is immoral, but by making representations around the quality and certification, and against which he has broken the law.
We have rejected the windows, I raised the issue as soon as I checked the first windows that were installed on 3rd when the contractors arrived to fit on 4th, but so far, have not received anything other than a phone call from Ecoseal at 4.50pm (Frank, who wouldn't give his surname), threatening charges for not signing off the contract. The fact that the representations made were spoken, were, according to him "not worth the paper they were written on". That tells me all I need to know!
The job is not yet complete (one part of a window is missing), but I cam concerned that this practice is being operated in this way in Newcastle. I also don't believe it's right that someone can remain silent, if they know, or ought to know that the product they sell is identical, but it now explains why he wouldn't dismiss my existing windows, although he did state their windows speak for themselves! That was a perfect opportunity for him to be honest, and say save your money. I don't think such morally bankrupt people should be trusted in a business environment, where the £ is more important to them that the person they are relieving of it. The situation now makes me feel physically sick, that someone would do that, and I don't believe I could be the only one this has happened or will happen to.
One star because I can't put 0. Shambolic organisation
Summary: Use these at your own risk
