Advantages: easy to use, informative, real-time quotes, quick executions, after-hours trade
Disadvantages: there are none
I have read some excellent OPINIONS of E-TRADE written by experienced traders. I would like to thank them one and all. My OPINION is one of a NEW E-TRADER. I find E-TRADE very easy to use. Type in a company name, get their stock symbol and voila! You will find quotes, daily ranges, charts, profiles, news, 52 wk. highs and lows, etc.---everything you need to begin. Although, I do not rely solely on the information E-TRADE offers. I also use AOL stock info and any other applicable sites when researching a particular stock. I find AOL'S s research reports and news to be more informative than E-TRADE's in general. I could not live without E-TRADE'S free real-time quotes. As a new investor that 20 minute delay just drives me up a wall. E-TRADE does not update your portfolio in real-time however. You can use the real-time quotes to calculate it on the side if you wish. I chose E-TRADE because of their reputation for being reliable. I thought my $ would be safe with them. So far, I have not had one problem. I have learned so much from E-TRADE. When I began this investing endeavor I had NO clue about the stock market. E-TRADE offers a world of information and it makes the stock market world very easy for beginners to understand. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND it for anyone just starting out. As I plunge deeper and deeper into this venture I will surely keep my eyes open for the experienced E-traders E-Pinions WARNINGS. Some are things I would not have thought of if not for their help. I hope E-TRADE will not let me down because so far I am having a BLAST. For those of you out there debating --- should I or shouldn't I E-TRADE? I say it's exciting, it's suspenseful, and it can be exhilarating. I think one must like gambling, taking risks and life a little bit on the edge to play the game. It certainly has its UPS and DOWNS. The UPS may make you dance around the house. The DOWNS, well,
don't let them see you cry. One must have a certain amount of stamina to participate. Tomorrow's another day with a whole world of new possibilities---companies to research---figures to crunch. As a first-time investor, I am well satisfied with E-TRADE. For all of you potential E-TRADERS out there, you might want to allow for a certain margin of error in your investment budget. Sometimes what I think is a sure thing is not. Other times, well, vice-versa. That's another thing I love --- the element of surprise. If you decide you'd like to get in on the action, you can open an E-trade account for as little as $500.00 (min). E-trade also offers specials to new customers. When I joined I received a rebate on my first month's worth of trade commissions---(standard $14.95-$19.95 based upon stock exchange). Recently, there has been a $75.00 rebate offer. Check the website - www.etrade.com for offers and answers to more detailed questions you may have about E-trading. Best of luck to all those who E-lect to E-trade. Also there is a game at Etrade.com This game is not only fun, you can also win prizes. There are seven prizes offered to the top winners. 1 first place prize $1000s, 2 second place prizes of $500s and 4 third place prizes of $250s. The game is very easy to use. All you have to do is register(www.etrade.com) and then begin placing your trades. There is no min. price you can execute at but there is a min. number of shares you can buy---10% of the days volume. I have recommended this particular company because it is easy to trade, read and understand how the market works. On the game you can get quotes, news, after hours quotes, charts, daily & weekly performance on your game account and upcoming IPO's. The only drawback is that it cost $19.95 to execute a trade. The price of a real life trade begins at $14.95. I STRONGLY recommend the E-trad
e game to anyone who is considering investing real money in the real stock market. Try the game first! Get your feet wet! You COULD win REAL money while you are learning. E-trade has a new game every month.

- 15/02/02 Just to clarify, as a standard UK account E-trade user, they don't offer real time prices: they're delayed, unless you pay extra for a live feed. (sneaky tip: if you want to know the live price set up a trade for 1 share of the company you're interested in. When you get to the confirm/cancel screen it'll give you a live quote and you can just cancel the trade. Voila: "free" live prices! |

- 09/10/01 I personally use www.hemscott.net which gives real time prices and 15 mins delay prices but without the trades. I have tried to write an article on this but the site has always played up. As far as the trades go, I have found that Abbey National web site is far the cheapest and most cost effective along with information given to you on the company. I found with etrade.com, you had to put in a deposit which earned interest if you had the money surplus in your trading account, but at the same time you are being charged an annual fee for looking after your money. I do not know if this is still the case, but it was at the beginning of the year when I changed to internet dealings.
Good luck with your trading. If you wish for any help, email me. Good op. |
