      Very helpful

For a university module last year I had to design a website, I decided to do one on my surname - Everett, not realising that the task would be so huge. The module required only a 5 page site, mine however is about 85, and instead of reviewing it, as it will be of very little interest to most of you, I shall reveal some of the fantastic sources of information that I uncovered. Search engines were my first port of call, by searching American, British, Canadian and Australian search engines, as well as the websites/images/sounds sections (Altavista is my favourite) you will reveal numerous links and information. The large corporate sites always come out near the top, but make sure you check out the search results near the end, eg pages 15/16, as these also reveal some gems. Checking the surname, and namesake sections of engines such as excite and yahoo also reveal new links. Genealogy sites such as cindys list and familytree.com are also another obvious source, these led me to sites such as the commonwealth soldiers database - listing all of the commonwealth soldiers who died in WW1 and WW2 ( a disturbingly large amount of everett's) I have also discovered that there was an everett on the titanic, the names of everett's in the American civil war and Klondike goldrush, and I found a site that listed all the people hung in London in the 16th century. For up to date information on Everett's I used Fujo (now sadly defunct) this trawled search engines, newswires and various American newspapers for articles featuring your chosen words. Searching the archives of online papers also revealed some fantastic articles (the guardian online is especially useful for this) Finally getting in contact with other Everett's was also very useful, I have received messages and information from Everett's in USA, Australia, Canada and England. Researching your family history is fun and revealing - I discovered my surname mea
ns Strong Warrior for instance. If you have some spare time I'd recommend it. Links to all of the above mentioned sites are available at my website by the way.
