Advantages: Lots to do

Disadvantages: None

I have been using facebook for about a year now. I actually used myspace at the time and after hearing so many people go on about how much better facebook was, I decided to sign up and give it a go.

Where do you begin?

You begin by going to www.facebook.com. When the page is loaded, you then click to sign up for free. Signing up literally couldn't be easier. You are asked a few questions nothing personal, just your name and some information about yourself i.e., which school you attended or college. This will enable old friends to contact and find you easier.

What is facebook?

As you probably already know, facebook is a social site that is used to stay in touch with friends old and new. When logging into facebook you will be asked for your email address and password for security. Once logged on the main page will appear, on this page you are able to see recent posts and comments that friends have made. There is a part on the top of the page where you are able to set a status and advise friends what you are up to.

Also on the main page is where you can find out if any fiends are having a birthday. I find this part useful considering I am useless with birthdays. There is also a people you may know section that will notify you of any friends you may know. I also find this useful as I have used this tool to get in touch with many old friends.

The main point in facebook is to socialise with friends using what is called as the wall. You basically click on a friend's name and write a comment on their wall, they will be notified and can comment back onto your wall. With this option all other friends are able to see the conversation so it isn't very private. If you would like to be a bit more discrete you can private message a friend or alternatively add the facebook messenger application, which basically acts as an MSN messenger.

It is very easy to add friends on facebook. All you have to do is put a friend's name in the search box and a list of people will come up. Sometimes it can be a nightmare searching through trying to identify a friend, but there are pictures to help and it will also advise you if any of the names have friends In common with you. Once you have found the correct friend you are able to send them a friends request. The friend will either accept or decline the friend's request. If the friend accepts then you are able to view their personal profile and talk to them. Once you have become friends with someone you can then look at any photos that they have added.

It is advised that upon signing up or anytime after you can add a profile picture. You don't have to add a picture of yourself but it is advisable so that old friends can find you by looking and recognising your picture. You can also add photos of your own and either have them available for all friends to see or only certain friends to see. This is great as one of my close friends lives in Germany now and I add pictures of my daughter and she does the same so we can see how the children are growing up.

As well as socialising, you can also play a lot of games on facebook. These can consist of mouse hunting and battling with friends to catch the biggest mouse. You can also compete with friends in bowling, snooker, football and superhero games. Although these games sound pretty childish, I must admit they are incredibly addictive.

You can also add applications to send gifts on facebook. This is basically where you send a friend a cute little bunny of a council estate gift. This application is pointless but it can be fun too.

Facebook also has a wide range of quizzes you can take the quizzes and see how high you can get in the ranks of beating friends from anything like general knowledge to movie stars and films. Once you have completed a test your score can be added and you are able to see if you answered more correct questions that any friends whom have taken the quiz.

There is one game on facebook that I do think is good and that is yoville. This game is kind of like the sims; you have to collect money to do up your home and buy clothes for your created character. You have to take them to work to earn money and interact with other facebookers. If you haven't tried this game then it's definitely worth a shot, but beware it is also very addictive.

Facebook also has a lot of groups that you can join; these range from showing your support to different causes to your favourite TV personalities. If you join a group then you sign up to receive news and information about the group. I find this useful as I like lee Evans the comedian; therefore after joining the group I am able to receive information about tours.

There is so much to say about facebook it is never ending. There is so much to do on there it will literally keep you hooked for hours. I have found a lot of friends from school and even infant school friends and it is so nice to get back in touch and see how things are going for them. It is amazing how many different stories people have about their lives and what they have got up to since leaving school.

I would definitely recommend facebook as it is such a good site, I would however be cautious of young children using the site, as with any others you can't be sure you are speaking with the same person that appears in the picture, especially if you receive friends requests from people you don't know. In this case it is better to decline them.

Summary: Better than mypsace

I call this FaceSnoop as there really are some nosy b's on there. I actually enjoyed going through my 'friends' and shedding those who clearly are on there for the gossip.

Oh and I 'befriended' my cousin one day, sent him loads of posts and wished him a happy birthday etc, only to discover that it wasnt my cousin, just someone with the same name (a very uncommon name too) and whose profile picture looked just like him from a distance. Proof that it can be really hard to find the right person even with a picture. lol

Well reviewed though
