Facebook.........
Facebook is a site that has been around for a good while now and I have been a member of it for well over a year. The basic idea of Facebook is that it is a social networking site giving its users the ability to see all their friends activities such as new photos that have been uploaded or keep up-to-date with what their friends are doing/thinking with the status updates.
Registering on Facebook is fast and simple and you can easily get up and running within a few minutes. However you do need to have your friends using the site otherwise it really has no point. Once you have requested to be friends with someone you know (by simply finding their name and photo in the directory) they then need to confirm that indeed you are friends. Once this has happened you are up and running to browse through their profile as they are able to with yours.
You can build up a whole load of friends because there are just so many people using the site these days. I personally have over 500 friends but I can honestly say that of these only a handful are true friends. This is then where the major downfall of Facebook lies. It is mostly I find just a good snooping tool so that you are able to look at people photos and see what people have been up to without actually having to speak to that person. I have had some trouble lately with a so called friend of mine getting jealous because she sees with out with another friend and feels that I have no time for her. When asked how she knew I had been out she told me she had been looking through my Facebook photos. Of course it was entirely up to me whether I posted these photos on the site or not but generally you don't think that this sort of thing is going to be used against you.
There are a lot of good things about Facebook in the fact that you can chat to people you haven't seen for a while on arrange to meet up with old friends but there are more annoying things about it too. I am so fed up with people asking me to become a "fan" of something that I have begun to ignore all requests. A lot of people download applications too where you can send people silly messages or work out things like what your name really means and so on. This in my opinion is just a waste of time and I ignore these too although I have so many requests that I am not even bothering to waste my time deleting them.
The concept of Facebook is a good one and I do believe it has made its creator a lot of money. I do continue to use Facebook as a social site but I have chosen to do so wisely. I think the main rule of it really has to be think before doing anything and not post information that you don't want everyone to know. I would say too that being friends with someone should be done with caution and only accept those who arte true friends rather than some random who is going to find out all of your information.
All in all I think Facebook can be a great site. I think the concept is good but there is also a lot of trash that goes with it and for that reason I am awarding a 3 star rating and giving it a cautious recommendation.
I do hope this has been of some help/interest to you.
Many thanks for taking the time to read.
Summary: good if used cautiously

- 10/07/09 Its the ruddy garden application I can't stand. If I receive ONE more Gnome or a plant my garden will just become nothing more than a Garden centre with no more grass for the rabbits to reek havoc on. |
