Facebook is quite simply a social networking site Alike Myspace, Bebo, Hi5 and whatever else you may have used before it.
I started on facebook around 3-4 years ago whilst in my first year of university, and it seems to be getting increasingly popular! For a social network site to stay ahead after 3 years is a great achievement, look how Myspace flopped so unexpectedly in the uk.
So the gist of facebook..

You add friends ... these can be found by searching their name, or searching using email addresses. If you ahve msn you can add everyone on your contacts and they can decide whether to accept you or not. You ahve the option to decline people who wish to add you!

Sharing Photos - This is my main reason for using facebook. At university someone always had a camera on a night out, that somebody was never me. But thanks to gacebook i have around 1000 pictures that I have been tagged in, and i have thousands more memories I can look at my looking for the albums. You can add 200 piccys per album, and can "tag" friends, this enables them to have your photo on their page as they are in it! A great tool myspace did not have, untill recent.

Profile - You have a simple profile, few basic question, you can choose whether or not to answer.

Fans - You can become a Fan of things, for example I am a fan of glastonbury festival. By being a fan of glastonbury I recieve updates on tickets, acts, events linked to glastonbury via facebook.

Videos - Alike pictures you can add videos and tag friends!

Security - You can close your profile from the public so nobody who you may wish not to see can view your page.

Edits - You can change settings at any time. I recently deleted 150 original friends I had, I made my profile private. If you block people you do not exist to them on facebook, they cant see anything you've done, or which friends you may have in common.

Applications - Facebook hosts a great number of applications. I am addicted to Farmville, which uses the concept of the sims but to run a farm. There are games such as scrabble, guess the sketch, chess, pirate games, ninja games so many different applications which can kill time when your bored!

How is it run - Facebook is free to all users, its is funded through advertisements on the page. Theses ads are on the sides of the pages they do not pop up and sometimes their ads for decent stuff! I've found some good shopping sites!

Users - Three years ago I would have said 15-25 year olds, but now Fcaebook is used on a global scale between every age group! Even my dad is on facebook! Its a great way of being able to keep in contact with family abroad, friends travelling or old uni/school/work mates!
