Disadvantages: None!

Social networking on Facebook.com

Since becoming a member of Facebook social networking i have visited the site everyday and more than once a day! I think its a great site and i would miss it terribly if it closed down.

Basically when you join the site (which is easy and simple to do so long as you have an email address) you are given a profile page which you fill in however you want all about yourself! You can choose to give out no details about yourself apart from your name or you can choose to write everything and anything about yourself on your profile page.

Once you've done this the fun starts as then you can start looking for your friends, old school friends and just people you know. You type the persons name and surname into the search bar then scroll through the pictures of people profiles to find the friend your looking for. Once you have found the friend you click send a friend request. This person will then receive an email telling them you would like to add them to your 'friends' so you can see there profile page. The person can either confirm your there friend so you will be able to see each others profile pages or ignore you so you cant see there profile.

If they do confirm and you become 'online friends' you can view there photo's and any information they may of wrote about themselves. You can then also 'write on there wall' meaning you can write a message on there profile space to them, which everyone esle who is there friend will also see. If you want the message to be private you can also private message them or speak to them on facebook chat! Which is just like MSN where if they are also online you can send instant messages to them and have conversations online.

If people want to add you as a friend you will also receive the email requesting to become 'friends' if you dont like this person or dont want them seeing your profile you can 'block' the person so if that person will no longer even be able to see your name is on facebook or know you even have a profile with them.

On your homepage you will be updated of what your friends are doing on there profiles, like adding photo's, adding videos, sharing you tube video etc etc. Also at the very top of the home page there is a box that says what is on your mind? In this box you can say anything you want to all your facebook friends for example ' im off on holiday to spain in 2 weeks!' this will come up on your friends home page next to your name and profile picture. Your friends can then reply to this by commenting back underneath. Everytime someone comments on your status' you will receive an email informing you your friend has replied. Your friends reply will also be visiable to all your your friends.

Not only can you chat to your friends on here but you can also play many different online games which are called applications. you just add the appplication and away you go! You can even play against your friends on facebook if they add the application too.

This is a fantanstic way to catch up and have a nosey at what your old and current friends, family, work mates anyone you may know are doing nowadays. And the best thing about it is its totally free!

If you havent already got an account sign up for one today! Its a great site.

Summary: Chat to old friends and make new friends!

Never really seen the appeal myself, but I know a heap of other people would disagree with me!
