Advantages: Quick, hassle-free & enviro friendly way of finding new homes for your unwanted items.
Disadvantages: Most ad's tend not to use photo's so don't always exactly know what you are getting!
WHAT A FANTASTIC IDEA!!! I LOVE IT!! SO EASY & ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY ALSO......
Freecycle is an organisation based completely on the idea that we all have items that we no longer need, but don't always want to sell, may need to get rid of quickly, and therefore find ourselves stuck with the problem of what do we do with them?
We all do it - suddenly decide that something has to go and want it gone there and then because it suddenly becomes unbearable to have it in the house a minute longer
OR
We no longer need an item, don't know anyone who would want it, perhaps it is not perfect so we wouldn't dream of selling it
SO WHAT DO DO WE DO WITH IT? Well before loading it into the car and heading for your local dump STOOOOOP!!!!!!
Log onto Freecycle, join a local group, write a brief description of the item you are 'offering' and before you know it you will have found someone who can give a home to your unwanted item.
And what's more - it also means you don't have to take that trip to the dump at all, and don't have to put your back out and wreck your car trying to man-handle items into it that clearly don't fit!!
So how does it work exactly?
* You have to have or set up a Yahoo Email Account/ID
* You search on the Freecycle website to find local groups
* Choose and apply to join the groups nearest to you (no limit - and all done with a few questions online).
* Want to 'offer' an item? Write a brief description of the item and post it to the message board and then anyone interested will send you a message (which will be directed to your chosen email account) saying they would like it. You choose whether to give it to first come first served or wait a little longer to make a decision depending upon the response, and once you know who you want it to go to - email them back, arrange collection and post a 'taken' message on the noticeboard so that everyone knows it has gone.
* Looking for an item? Read the posts on the message board, reply to a message you are interested in, and WAIT. If you are the lucky one you will get an email saying 'when can you collect' and you will have not only got yourself a bargain, but saved that little bit of landfill space where it would have ended up.
In my experience there are not many items on freecycle that do not successfully find a new home and if you do advertise something and no-one wants it - at least when you take it to the dump, you can find comfort in the fact that you tried.......
Summary: Don't wreck you back or your car. Stop. Freecycle & brighten someone else's day.

- 10/07/09 Would be better if you gave more details about what type of items are there and also if there are problems |
