Advantages: free, good selection
Disadvantages: cluttered site, difficult to navigate
Ringtones have been big business for quite a few years now, and with the expanding use of mobile phones the demand is naturally increasing. Quite a few websites have provided free ringtones in the past, but one by one they tend to convert to selling the tones instead. This is hardly surprising considering the amount of people that often buy such products on a regular basis in order to keep up to date with the latest charts. The first thing I noticed about this site was it's untidy appearance. The hyperlinks for the ringtones are poorly displayed and difficult to read, also the amount of advertising banners seems quite excessive. I appreciate the need to generate some form of revenue to justify the site, although a little more thought could have been gived to the general layout. The transmission method of the tones is rather unorthodox. Clicking on the link to select a ringtone will launch your e-mail client for you to enter your mobile munber and send the e-mail to request the tone. The number of ringtones permitted is restricted to 1 per day. This is very promising because it will reduce the chance of a handful of people abusing the system, which should help the site to prolong the service. Despite the overall appearance, the selection of ringtones seems very good and covers a broad variety of tastes. If you would like to improve on the poor selection of ringtones that most manufacturers supply with your mobile and do not wish to spend several pounds to purchase them, then you could do much worse than visiting freeringtones.org. If you request a ringtone from here, do not forget to use the international number for your mobile. This is done by simply removing the 0 from the front of the number and replacing it with +44.

- 17/09/02 I won't pay for ringtones but I have had some decent free ones from the NUS online website, not bad if you're a student. |

- 09/09/02 Good opinion, I hate the way they charge excessive prices for ringtones. I have a C45, so can get free rigntones/logos off the Siemens site. Andy, check out my first opinion if you have chance. |
