Advantages: message long lost friends, browse profiles for free

Disadvantages: small charge for messaging, that certain person might not be listed

Friendsreunited.com - a easy to use site which helps you get in contact with all your long lost friends.

Launched in July 2000 by a married couple in London who wanted to contact old friends to tell them their big announcement, they were having a baby!
After using many search engines to find these friends, they didnt find who they wanted to find, so came up with the idea of making their own website to help others find old friends too.
By the end of July 2000 with the website all set up and running over 3,000 members became registered. The website became succesfull thanks to word of mouth and the media.
Now due to the continuing success the website has its own sister sites 'Genesreunited'- helps you trace your family tree. 'FriendsReunitedDating' - Maybe you could find your perfect match. Also 'FriendsReunitedJobs' - Find your ideal job with your pal.

It is absolutly free to browse other members profiles but with a charge of £7.50 every 6 months you can send unlimited messages to anyone on the site you like.

Registering is easy and only takes a few minutes, everything you add can be edited later on if you wish.
You create a password, type in the area you are living and write a few short sentances about what you are doing now.
Friends reunited is absolutly confidential, no one will know you have been browsing their profile.

You have your own profile which can be updated and edited any time. Your own profile screen will come up every time you log in. People will also see your profile if they wish to browse and can also contact you if they wish, this is exactly how you contact other people if you wish to browse too.

Your profile contains all the information you have added about yourself i.e what your doing now, future prospects etc.
You can upload pictures of yourself, and even make an album.
You can add a news flash which is an option you choose from different listed announcements i.e 'im having a baby' or 'im getting married'.
Your Interests, music, sports and tv are all listed which you can salso edit at any time.
The places on the site you have visited are listed on your profile, so with a click of your mouse you can revisit them again without having to go through all the trouble of searching again.

You can search your old Infant, Primary and Secondary Schools also colleges and universities, now even street names and teams or clubs.
When you type in your search for example you type in your old school, it gives a list of all the people that went to that school and what year. To narrow down your search you need to click on the year you was there and then you should see a list of names you reconise.
When you have found a person you want to look up just simply click on their name, a box pops up for you to send a message if you wish. If you havent paid the £7.50 you have a chance to upgrade to that membership instantly or you can just browse that persons profile.
You can also add friends to your favourites, so when you are on your own profile you can just click on their name if you wish to revisit them saves searching again.

Well I think I covered that, I would recommmened this site to people who would love to meet old friends. If you are confident in talking to them straight away you can and maybe also arrange a reunion.
It is good for people who are just curious about what their old frinds are up to, as you dont need to talk to them.
There is one slight problem, you may not always find who you are looking for as some people wont be listed. It is there choice if they want to join or not, but dont feel down there is bound to be somebody you know on there.

Summary: a good site to find old pals

I registered with this site years ago when it was free and stopped using it once they started charging. I found that in general there was a good reason why I wasn't still in touch with many people from school and apart from sharing a few good (or even bad) memories from the "good old days" we didn't have much in common anymore. My mum went on this a few months ago and found people she hadn't seen for 30 years! Sam (Internet Guide)
