Advantages: A great gaming server with plenty of games to play, and many gamers to play it

Disadvantages: Can not access Powerplay without a BT connection.

Wireplay is probably one of the best gaming networks on the internet. Once upon a time when it started, it belonged to good old BT, it ran all the classics (such as Duke Nukem) and was continuosly updated for newer games. My mates and I, could spend hours on Wireplay, trying out different games that we never thought we could play on multiplayer.

This was some 2 or 3 years ago, now things have slightly changed. After a big buy out from Gameplay, the wireplay community moved hands. Really this had no real change on the system, and wireplay kept on going. And whats more it is FREE! All you require is to type in your details, download, and you are away.

Now, wireplay has become extremely popular, expecially for the larger gaming communities such as Half Life (my personal favourite), and Quake 3 arena. These all run at reasonable (although sometimes unplayeable) speeds, and no matter what are great fun to do.

Another good thing about Wireplay, is that almost all games that have multiplayer options is on there. This means that if a group of friends have the same game, then you can link up through Wireplay. It is extremely useful
If the Wireplay client does not have a pernenant (which it does for all the popular games), then you can set up your own without to much trouble. Not only does this means you can play friends, but you can meet new gamers over the chat interface before you play.

However, I have recently purchased free internet (well, a monthly payment type) and am not connected through a BT isp.
For some reason, although the Wireplay server does not belong to BT anymore you still need to have a BT connection to get into the Powerplay section.
Do not despair though, Powerplay is not the only section in the Wireplay service, if you do not have a BT connection, you can connect to Open play, which is available around the world.
One problem with this is though, it is alot slower, the lag is greater, and you c
an find some badly run server games. On the whole, open play seems alot more unorganized than the British Powerplay.

Because of this problem (and the fact that I play fewer games now), my usage of Wireplay has begin to diminish.

Of course, there are many other gaming servers across the net that alow gamers to join up and play games (including Microsoft and Demon), however I found Wireplay by far the best, because it is mainly British. So, I throughly reccomend it, if you have a BT connection and like to play multiplayer games.

One other great thing about Gameplay is that it is not simply Wireplay, also on the Gameplay website (which loads up with Wireplay) there is a shop to buy games at usually a lower price that the RRP, there are many competetions that you can enter through Wireplay, there are many links to sites for patches, demos ect. It really is a well organized, well layed out web site.

On a whole, I feel that Gameplay made a smart move buying out Wireplay from BT, since then it has grown into a large well coordinated server, used by many clans around Britain. It is simple to download, and regular updates are automtically done through your connection.
It really is simple for the simple gamer, as I said, if you like Gaming on multiplayer, and you like it for free, try Wireplay.
