Advantages: Lots of features, no real need to pay anything
Disadvantages: None really - depends on your own personal tastes
Well I guess it was only a matter of time before I got round to reviewing Gaydar.
I do like the name, always have. I'd guess it's named after the supposed 'sixth sense' a gay man is meant to have when trying to find out if someone is homosexual.
I've been meaning to get one for a long time but sadly I still have no idea. There seems to be a thing about gay men more so than straight ones to be as promiscuous as Nelly Furtado in that song of hers.
And whilst Gaydar offers guys the opportunity in a world that is still a bit prejudiced towards homosexuality to meet up with likeminded people and form potential friendships
and relationships, the majority of the people that do join are looking to fulfil a need that's resting in their pants.
Gaydar at first glance is a nice bright site and is very easy to navigate. In fact you could make your way around the site quite easily with your eyes closed. The main aim of the site is for gay/bisexual/transgender men around the world to join and chat and meet up [oh and the biggie which most of them seem to do] cruise for a bit of sex.
Joining the site is completly free though there is a membership fee if you want to have features such as unlimited messages or do more advanced searches though I personally have gotten along quite well without needing to pay out anything.
Gaydar aren't as stingy as some dating sites who only allow you so many messages before you have to subscribe or don't allow you to view any profiles without forking over cash which is nice as it means the site is open to literally anybody.
Main features include your very own profile which you create when you sign up. You can display information about your interest and hobbies, what you look for in a guy and just general stats about yourself. There's the opportunity to search for other people - you can do a search of a town or a region of the UK or even if the world if you wish, or if you're feeling very picky - there's even options to do a more advanced search though as mentioned above that option is only accessable to subscribers.
Members communicate by messaging each other - you can do this by clicking the little letter symbol situated in the top right hand corner of somebody's profile where there's also a variety of different buttons you can use to let the guy know what you think of him. The major feature on offer is of course the chatroom which is also free and allows you to talk more freely with guys as chatrooms vary from individual towns to personal intersts and various sexual fetishes. I've found from my own personal experience that the chatrooms are usually full of people wanting to 'hook up' so be forewarned if you decide to venture inside!
The site also offers competitions from time to time such as the chance to win Kylie Minogue signed CDs and trhere's also both a radio and mobile phone service avaliable which helps to make the site even more accessable and interactive.
All in all from my own personal experience I have met a few very nice people on here thoug hthe majority I wouldn't give the time of day it's really helped widen my social circle and make me more confident about the whole dating thing in general so I would
really reccomend for any gay man that's not a member yet to join now!
Oh and I've gone on about gay guys a lot in this review as I'm speaking from my own personal experiences but there is also a site for lesbians which has all the exact same functions and features mentioned in my review.
Summary: A great way to meet likeminded gay/lesbian people
