Advantages: A handy way of meeting gay people in your area, especially if you're not 'out' per se.

Disadvantages: Pervy old men in places, but it's just a matter of learning to keep them at bay.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Gaydar website, it is a site for gay men (or there is a girl's version too I believe) which can be used for dating, casual encounters or even to make new friends.

The real beauty of Gaydar, is that it is a very large percentage of the gay men in your area rounded up on one website. So it is effectively like going to your local gay bar, except it's easier to approach people on here.

Once you have signed up and got an account, you may search for people in your area, going to 'search options' and then to 'quick search' (as the 'power search' tool is only available to paying members) where you can state specifically what type of guy you are looking for, in terms of what age range you're aiming for and what you want out of them. There will be something for everybody.
Also in the 'search options' category, you have a function called 'view tracks' where you can see who has viewed your profile. If you don't want somebody to see you've viewed their profile, you will see a few clickable buttons towards the top right of every profile... click the red 'X' out of these to perform this action.

In the 'message center' section, this is your inbox of private messages. You will only be able to view the messages you have received within the past 72 hours, unless you want to store them.

Also available on this menu towards the left, is the 'chat room' facility which I don't personally use and is usually like a ghost town anyway, and there's a 'commercial' section where you can hire out escorts, if that's your kind of thing. (It isn't mine, by the way).

The other key feature is 'gaydar radio', which is the site's own radio station and plays music 24/7.

Last but not least, I often receive suggestive messages from people double my age or more despite me stating my age range clearly on my profile - you just need to learn to ignore them if you don't want to hear from them, or if they persist set the record straight.
