Geocities is the best known free host on the internet. We've all seen them,

usually the home of some tacky personal pages with music and bouncing animations. Why would anyone want to host their site there?

It's true that the Geocities pages suffer from an image problem. Prepare to be tarred by association if you choose this host for your website. Geocities webmasters are united by the desire to spend absolutely no money whatsoever on hosting. So although there are some good Geocities-hosted sites, there are plenty of ones that have as little though invested in them as money, and it's the truly awful ones that get remembered.

Summary: Free, you get what you pay for.
