Advantages: Free, easy to use, quick, high capacity for emails

Disadvantages: None

Since I spend an unnatural amount of time on the internet, I decided that it would be a good idea to share with you all the sites which I frequent most often and which I find to be the best. I check my email every time that I go online, and so mail.google.com is one of the sites which I visit every day without fail. I have been using Googlemail for several years, and since discovering it have not been tempted to go back to hotmail or any other of the providers which I was using previously.

*What Is Googlemail?*

Googlemail is, unsurprisingly, the email service offered by Google. This service is free to use for everyone, and is a simple and quick site to read and send emails.

*Layout*

The layout of Googlemail is simple and eye-catching. On the left hand side of the page you will find links to your inbox, sent mail, drafts etc., and along the top there are links to other applications such as calendar and Google itself. The main bulk of the page will be made up of a list of your emails, with the name of the sender shown clearly on the left, with the subject of the email and the first few words of the text shown on the right. The emails are listed from newest to oldest, and next to each email there is a tick box which you can click to indicate that you want this email to be deleted. There is also a search bar at the top of the page, which you can use to find a specific email by searching for a sender or something in the email itself.

*Why do I like Googlemail?*

Basically, I like and use Googlemail because it is free and easy to do so. I find the layout and appearance of the site to be much more attractive than hotmail or outlook express, and most of the features are simple enough for anyone to be able to use. For example, if I want to be able to find an important email quickly in the future, I can click on the star symbol next to the title, and then this email will appear in my 'Starred' folder, or I can alternatively search for it in the search bar. This has really come in handy for saving homework or job applications which I often need access to quickly, and once I don't need them to be 'starred' anymore, I can simply unclick their star and they return to being a normal email. There also seems to be almost unlimited storage capacity for emails, as according to the constantly updating counter on the front page will tell you just how much you can store in your account, I am nowhere near the maximum allowance.

The main reason that I like Googlemail, however, is the fact that, in the several years that I have been using it, I have never had a single problem with the server or any need to complain. I am happy sticking with Google's mail service for the foreseeable future, and would strongly recommend it to anyone who wanted a free and simple email provider.

Summary: A great email provider

Did you know you can apply "labels" to emails too? For example all your current job applications can have one label which you then click on to list them, better than stars as you don't get ALL the starred emails.

I used it when I was contacting a lot of people about houses to rent, just one label for "Houses 09-10" made it very easy to sort.

I might check this out. My Hotmail is not working lately. Keeps running behind? Great review!
