Advantages: One of the bigger players and very reliable

Disadvantages: Can be difficult to find what you are looking for it search terms are common

Google.co.uk is the United Kingdom's version of the worlds largest web search engine. Almost anybody that has used the internet has come used the internet has at some stage of using the internet has used Google to search for a website; or has at least heard of the site.

The history of Google is well documented; it started life as the project of two university students in a room with a few second hand hard drives, that has now grown into the corporate giant that is now Google. The name Google was originally intended to be the word 'Googol' but was originally misspelled and the Google name was kept.

In terms of the search engine it is one of the best in the world, and is the main reason that the company is the world leader. The way that the search engine works is through the use of key words, although there are ways in which the search can be more precise. This is through the way of connects or search terms. Such an example would be if the user was search for a quote but did not know where the quote was from, the user could encapsulate the whole sentence within speech marks, meaning only matches with the exact wording is given. Although the website has the option to use these search parameter, it is not always successful as it may not always find what you are looking for. While if you use search terms the results that you are given may be too wide.

Although the main part of the Google website is as a search engine, other web applications can be found on the site such as gmail, Google Docs and Froogle among others. The site may have these features on the site, but he main reason that the majority of light internet users will only use the site as a search engine.

Overall I would recommend the site to a person that is wanting to use a search engine, but it would be my guess that the majority of people already use a search engine that they perfer, with Google already being the dominate player. The only problem that I have is that Google may be becoming too dominant in the field and this could become a problem in the future.
