Google is one of the most wel known names in the world. To the computer literate it is an essential part of life. Google is almost synonomous with the internet, and I could never imagine one without the other. Surely this is one of the biggest and most utilised websites in the world, with hundreds of millions of searches every day.

For those of you who - for some inexplicable reason - do not know what google is, let me explain. Google is a search engine, essentially doing all your hard work for you if you want to surf the net. With millions upon millions of website addresses stored on it's system, you can find whatever website you are looking for. Simply searching for the name of a product will produce lists of results for you to pick from. The results are listed in an order of course, by their ranking. Essentially what this means, is that you are likely to get the most trusted and poprular websites listed first. This is most advantageous, for example search for the name of a football team and you will get their official website listed first.

The layout and interface of google are surely what helps to make it such a popular search tool. It is one of the ost user friendly website's on the whole of the internet, with a simple design. Upon reaching the home page you have one simple search box, with the top of the page giving the option of searching for a website, images, video, maps news, shopping, mail, or many more options inclusive of groups and blog. Once you have typed your search terms into the box you can choose to search eaither the web, or just pages from the UK. Rather than do your google search, you can choose to the click the 'I'm feeling lucky' button. This will automatically take you to the first web page that a search returns. e.g. 'I'm feeling lucky' search for David Beckham will take you to his wikipedia information page.

Google also gives suggestions. For example if you type in a search word that is spelt wrong, google will return your search but at the very top of the page it will say 'did you mean ____?'.

All in all google is my favourite search site due to it being extremely quick to return results, and usually giving exactly what you were looking for.
