Advantages: A great powerful tool that is an internet essential
Disadvantages: They seem to be taking over, it won't be the internet for long, it'll be the Googlenet!
Google.com is the largest search engine on the web and packs in some amazing features placing it miles above the rest.
The main page is extremely simple yet works perfectly. The "Google" image is a nice logo and is regularly updated on holidays, special memorial days etc with a related theme, making Google a great place to view these added extras and find more information on them.
Below the logo is the search bar, here you can go through advanced options or use the main two options on the site. First is obviously a standard search of the internet. Google is really fast returning results in a fraction of a second, but if that second is too long to wait, "I'm feeling lucky" button will automatically take you to the top result to save time. It's ok, but seems rather gimmicky, especially if you don't want the sponsored/top link.
The search results themselves are great, sponsored links are down the side (so you can ignore them if you want) and the rest run down the left of the page. Clear titles in bold, make finding the correct site easy, there's also a detailed text of where your search credentials were found which make a great reference point. Something that Google offers here, that conventional search engines don't, is the ability to search through recent entries and updates of webpages, with the option of displaying all the related similar webpages underneath.
The top of Google's pages really incoporate their online community and help you manage a lot of your online items from one place. If you have a google account you can sign in to take advantage of iGoogle (your own customisable Google, with great tools like widgets and bookmarks). There's also access to Google's other services such as Video, Maps, News etc, but I will try and cover them under their own category on dooyoo.
The main sub-domain to accompany Google is images.google.com, a great tool which searches websites for various images. It also works great for switching between search and images, automatically bringing up the results for either.
Overall Google is so much more than a search engine. It's gone from being a small server to a multi-national corporation that has an enormous market share online with sites such as YouTube and Blogger. The media hub that is Google is a great tool and without it using the internet wouldn't be so enjoyable.
Summary: An internet essential, creating a media hub for you to make the most out of resources
