Advantages: very fast, relevant, accurate and helpful

Disadvantages: no features other than text search, not much advertising or public support

www.Google.com if by far and away the fastest, most accurate and most thorough search engine you will find on the web. With the web explanding by hundreds of thousands of pages per day (yes, per day)a decent, relevant and up to date webearch is a mean feat. But then again, Google packs some mean Technology.

Search engines work by using powerful pieces of software called 'spiders' running on insanely fast systems that search out new pages on the internet to add to its database. The full text content is then filed and used for text searches. A copy of the meta tag (the piece of non-visible text containing keywords written by the page's author which describe the page and its content) is also kept. A searcher then enters their keywords and search terms and the engine compares these to all files on its database.

Google employs this technology to the full, not being interested in other fields spanning shopping and news (such as Altavista), or having varied searches such as image or Mp3 searches. This allows Google to spend its income (from affiliates and Google prjects with other web companies) on making its searches the most accurate, relevant and up to date.

A few monts ago, Google was a pretty poor attempt at a earch engine, but now it has been crowned the king of searches. I wholly recommend a visit. Other search engines such as Yahoo or Altavista may be attracting many more millions of clicks per day, but this is due to their added features, rather than blisteringly fast and relevant searches.

There's not a lot on the Google site, but what will result will probably suprise.
