GOOGLE.COM

Many of you who use the Internet will know of GOOGLE.COM. Google is a search engine. In other words, if you wish to find something on the internet, you type Google.com into your browser, and then a screen will appear, and there is a section where you can type words to help you in your search and Google will do the rest.

HOW DOES IT HELP YOU ?

Say for example, you want to buy something and you are not sure where to buy it. Go to Google.com and type in the product that you want to find. Then press the Google Search button and Google will find all sites that have the product that you are looking for.

COMPARISONS

I have compared Google with many other search engines, and always come back to Google, because of the extra facilities that Google offers. It offers translation which for me is essential since I look up a lot of French sites, and although I am fluent in both languages, sometimes technical French is a little difficult for me.

I tried Alta Vista, MSN, Jeeves, and many more search engines, although they really offer me no comparison. They do not find the more obscure items that I am looking for and Google do.

WHAT ELSE DOES IT OFFER YOU ?

Google to me is a tool, just like any other of my programs. Sometimes people say that I am not a technophobic but in reality I am. I come across new things and I do not know what they are, so I ask Google. How ? I simply type the question ?What is ??.? And the technical term that I am looking for and every time, Google tells me in simple terms what that thing is. There are so many new technical terms that I am uncomfortable with and Google helps me to understand them.

It also offers so much information. It is like a library to me. In simple terms, I suppose that is what it is. If you want to find out about learning a different language, simply type in ?Learn French?, and google takes you to all the sites where you can learn French. Th
ese are sites that give you free tuition as well as paid tuition. All you have to do is read through all the choices that Google gives you and take a choice. If it is wrong, simply press the Go Back button on your browser, and look again.

It is great for booking holidays because you can type in ?Cheap Holidays?, and it will tell you all the sites that offer cheap holidays. Sometimes you need to be more specific to narrow the search, i.e. cheap holidays from the U.K. will give you all the holiday companies that offer flights from the UK.

COST

Free of charge. That can?t be bad.

OBSCURE SITES

I once typed in the name of my village which has three people living in it, and Google came up with articles about my village. How obscure is that ? It is a pleasure to work with Google. It tells me so much and I use it every day, and every day there are more sites added to the Google experience, so that it becomes more and more useful.

THE PROOF IS THERE

Go try it. Type in anything from Love and Peace and Tranquility which I have typed into its browser on bad days, to the most obscure of items, and Google will help you. I believe 100 % in this site as being my gateway to the Internet.

I have even set my internet options so that the first page that appears on my Internet Explorer is Google.
