Advantages: Convenience, variety of fruit
Disadvantages: Expensive for what it is
Graze is an online company who for £2.99 a week will send a recycled cardboard box containing 3 portions of fruit, nuts and healthy snacks. The portions are roughly 140g, 70g and 30g, and you get a good selection for your money. The largest of these is a fresh fruit portion, which does stay amazingly fresh due to a magical, technological sleeve. The next portion is a mix, ususally 3 types of dried fruit or fruit and nuts. The smallest portion is a 'treat' and can range from dairy free chocolate beans through to fruit juice infused raisins.
A few months ago I was given a code for a free first box from Graze, with a half price second box. Always keen for freebies, I logged on and ordered my first box.
On the website you can specify what you want to come in your box, which fruits you like or don't like, if you want the 'treats' or just fruit and nuts, and if you would like a portion of olives. For me I hate nuts, so all packs with nuts in were removed from my list. I also removed fruits like apples and grapes from the fresh fruit section, these are cheap and always in my fridge anyway, so I didn't want more of them sending out!
You can specify the day of the week the box arrives, and for me they have always arrived on time. They fit through a normal letterbox, so no worries if you are out. Graze will deliver to your home or your work, and these boxes can be a great substitute for that 4pm vending machine crash.
I've had mixed feelings about these boxes. I like the concept, but too often the cherries have arrived mushed up, or I had a strawberry and white chocolate mix which not only had the calories of nearly 2 dairy milk bars, but made me retch it was so sickly.
For £2.99 its a lot better value to make up your own dried fruit mixes to snack on during the day, and you can focus on fruits that are lower in calories, as frequently there were over 600 calories in a box.
I have cancelled my subscription now, and am back to eating proper, fresh fruit when I want a snack, and my waist and my wallet feels much better for it.
Summary: Make your own mixes!

- 11/11/09 I'm not sure why you wouldn't exclude chocolate if you're looking for lower-calorie boxes.
I agree that the dried food isn't great value, but as I only buy food for myself, it would work out very expensive to buy everything separately (not to mention I don't have the space), and all the fresh fruit would go off before I could use it. I much prefer graze when they are shipping the fresh fruit boxes.
I find the quality of all the food is far better than I can get at the supermarket too - unfortunately I don't have any food markets nearby.
Think it's designed more for busy single office types! Great review. |

- 09/11/09 I tried this with a free code too & I agree, it's just far too expensive for what it is! |
