Advantages: Snacks with benefits, nutrition, delicious, easy website to navigate
Disadvantages: None for me
When I read a fab review on Graze by Ryanando, I was eager to give them a try. I had previously heard of them as only a few days before I had received a leaflet through the post about the company, so armed with my voucher code for a free box, I signed up and eagerly awaited delivery.
Graze is a company that sends nutritious nibbles to snack on through the post. Postage is free and they deliver nationwide to any address. Because the boxes are A5 (23cm × 17cm × 2.5cm) in size, they fit through letterboxes and don't require a signature, so receiving them is hassle free. You can chose how often and on what days you would like to receive them so it really is a personalised service.
The website is easy to navigate around and registering is easy. All that is required is a credit or debit card (still required if you use the free first box code, but no payment will be taken for this box). You can cancel the account at any time, and there isn't a commitment. I love my Graze boxes though and won't be cancelling any time soon! I have two boxes delivered per week and love it!
There are two types of boxes, the nibble boxes are brilliant if you like variety and these are what I receive. In each box you get 4 individually sealed portions of snack, and in one box you could receive some garlic and chilli olives, some mixed nuts with chocolate buttons mixed in, some flapjack and freshly baked mini baguettes with onion marmalade. The variety really is excellent, but I'll cover that in more detail a little later on. The other type of box you can get is a nutrition plan, but I haven't signed up for these boxes and the information on the website is a little scarce: 'these contain just our healthiest foods rich in micronutrients, designed by our nutrition team'.
There are different categories for you to choose from, and each box I have had always contains a nice selection across the board, rather than say 4 different lots of flapjack or olives for example.
The categories are:
Dried fruit, nuts and seeds
I have had some lovely things in my boxes and things I would never have tried. I love fruit but have always turned my nose up at dried fruit except for raisins, but one pod contained dried mango, apricot, raisins and chocolate covered linseeds and was so delicious. The flapjacks are heavenly, as is the carrot cake (which comes with a lovely blended Assam and Kenyan leaves afternoon teabag). The olives are mouth wateringly good, but I found the garlic and chilli ones a little overpowering, but still lovely. The deli breads have all been a hit, they usually come with some kind of dip such as onion marmalade or chutney. The seeds are usually my least favourite but still very good! I don't think I have had a bad selection yet, and it has allowed me to try foods that I wouldn't have tried or bought before, and they are healthy! Win win!
Rate or Slate:
The beauty of the website is that you can rate or slate different foods. For example, when you first sign up you will have a generally rough idea of the type of the things you won't want to receive so you can 'bin' them, or if you fancy the sound of something you can mark it with 'try'. Then, as and when you receive boxes you can 'like', 'love' or 'bin' the foods you have received. This will allow the team to know whether or not you like that specific product, but it also gives them a better idea of the type of ranges you go for, e.g., nuts, dried fruit, flapjacks, cakes, etc. You can also use 'send soon' in the same way and will give the team a good indication of what to pack in your boxes. The option to 'bin' everything containing a certain ingredient is handy if you for example detest sunflower seeds or coconut, you simply search for the ingredient and click 'bin'.
Allergies and special dietary requirements:
Unfortunately, Graze cannot guarantee that products will be free of nut traces, so people with nut allergies will not be able to order them. The range is suitable for vegetarians, some of the products contain shellac which is approved by the Vegetarian Society but they can be 'binned' if you would prefer not to receive them. People with lactose, dairy intolerances, and coeliac sufferers can easily remove any unsuitable products through the help page and guidance is given, although the Graze team are eager to let you know that all the products are prepared in the same kitchen.
A varied diet is, as we all know, the best way to stay healthy. By eating Graze boxes, you are definitely on the right track and the benefits are aplenty. Taken from Grazes website, these are the kind of benefits you can expect to receive from the boxes:
Antioxidants: Graze punnets contain plenty of antioxidant nutrients. They are particularly handy to have around, protecting your cells from damage caused by oxidisation, strengthening your immune system, supporting thyroid function and keeping your hair and nails looking good.
Fibre rich foods: Eating a variety of fibre-rich foods such as nuts, seeds and fruit helps keep your digestive system in tune. Oats, also contained in our range, can help to regulate your blood sugar levels as well as having a positive effect on your cholesterol. Most graze punnets contain fibre-rich foods, but keep a special eye out for almonds - they have the highest fibre content of any nut.
B-vitamins: We like to give you a range of B-vitamins by mixing nuts, seeds and dried fruit. This is great news as the B-vitamin family works really well together. Amongst other things, they can help release good energy from food, boost your immune system and maintain a healthy nervous system.
Snacks with Benefits:
Every single snack that is offered has some kind of benefit. Some have more than one. The benefits include 1 of your 5 a day, lighter snacks between 110 - 150 calories (exact calories will be in your booklet which comes with the box), super light snacks with under 110 calories, good source of vitamins and minerals (if you see this symbol it will have at least two vitamins or minerals contained in it), good source of fibre, really super healthy. All of the benefits have their own little symbol which is nicely displayed on the see through cover of whatever snack it relates to. It's nice to see that on each of the tasty treats, you know you are gaining some dietary benefits from it.
You only pay for what you receive and it isn't a monthly subscription, it is per box. Boxes are priced at £3.89 each and delivery is free, but there are always offers and promotions running. For example, I signed up and got my first box free with a code (5QT6L93 which still works), and then I got my 5th box free. I'm assuming I will receive complimentary boxes every so often, if I continue to keep my account. Payment comes out of your nominated account (by card payment) up to 5 days before the box is received. This is so that your personalised box can be prepared and shipped to you. If you are away or just fancy a break from the boxes, this is simple and can be done through your account page online, by 'pushing back' deliveries or booking a holiday. You can have them delivered anywhere, and you can add more addresses to your account, so you could chose to receive one at home on a Saturday and one at work on a Wednesday, for example.
The boxes are recyclable, and each comes with a napkin and a little stick thing which is for olives. It took me a while to work out what it was for as I didn't receive olives for a few boxes, but they were still in! In each box, you also get a personalised little booklet which on the front says 'Hi Carly' in speech bubbles, which I really like. Inside it breaks down the nutritional value of the snacks inside and gives you calories, etc. The boxes don't need to be stored in the fridge, even the olives are designed to live out of the fridge and these are handy for lunch for work. The boxes don't seem to last long, usually about an hour!!!!! By the time I get home from work at 2pm, I'm starving as I rarely have chance to eat while I'm at work so this doubles up as a healthy and nutritious lunch! I have had around 10 boxes now and I don't actually think my husband has seen one yet!
Summary: 5 stars
