Avoid the London site!

Advantages: free, easy to use
Disadvantages: spam on the london site
Gumtree is a fantastic resource for selling, buying and networking. It varies on success depending on which region or country you want to browse through.
The site is very easy to navigate, on the left choose your region, then within that reason there are many options available. You could search for a house to rent, within your budget, or advertise all your random rubbish that someone else may buy. One mans trash is anothers treasure remember.
My favourite part of this website is the fact that it allows you to post your own advert for things like tuition and find people to be in your band. Its also free to post adverts unless you post in the actual tuition section. However its not a large amount, around £4.99 for a premium listing that stays at the top of each page.
The site can be prone to spammers however, especially if you are using the London part of the site. I once posted for a flatshare and was inundated with a spam attack from many other countries. You can always tell which are fake however and never wire anyone money without seeing items in person first.
Its a gamble using the London part of the website but all other towns seem to be fine.
I am currently using the east sussex part to try and find a flat! I am also looking for a job and it lists all the current roles by day, and you can decide which category of job you want to view. It saves so much time and you often get a lot of independent employers advertising which is better than large commercial organisations I think.
Summary: A good resource for certain things
