I have been a member of the online swapping site Hitflip since it began (I was previously a member of swopex who were taken over by Hitflip in early 2007). The site is relatively simple to get the hang of - you can swap CDs, DVDs, books, audiobooks and games for a fee of 79p per swap plus a certain amount of Flips (Hitflip's virtual currency system).
I use Hitflip quite frequently as you can find some hidden gems among the items available, and over time the range of choice does seem to be improving too. I've probably swapped around 20-30 items problem-free.
You can add items to your library by entering the EAN of the item. It is then given an automatic flip price and you can choose whether you want to swap it right away or just enter it into your library to start with. The automatic flip price has been a little irritating at times, as I believe the system does under or over value some products, however I recently received a newsletter from Hitflip saying that this will shortly be changing and you will be able to set your own Flip price - I think this will make swapping on Hitflip a far more attractive proposition.
The site is quite a bit more developed than other swapping sites I've used, there are actor/director type pages where you can see what other things someone has been in and if there are available, and there are good features such as recommendations based on your previous ratings of products.
There are sometimes competitions and special incentives sent out in the newsletter too, which can be a good way to earn some extra flips. As there are new features constantly added to improve the site and the way swapping works, I am finding I enjoy using it more and more as time goes on - at first when they took over from swopex I thought it might be a bad move, but everything has worked well since the difficult takeover period.
Negative points: as stated, there is some room for improvement with the number of available items, and the new feature where you can choose your own flip price can't come fast enough for me!
Hitflip is a swapping site where you can swap CDs, DVDs, books and games for 79p per swap.
I signed up for Hitflip after it was featured in an email newsletter I receive. I have a lot of unused CDs and DVDs, so it seemed a great idea to be able to swap them for something I would prefer.
When you sign up to Hitflip your account already has 1 free flip and 79p. This is enough to order 1 free item, which was a great way for me to test out the system and get used to the site before putting any of my own items up for swap. Once I received my free item and it was in good condition, I felt a bit more confident about the service, and added some of my DVDs to my library. It wasn't long before the sending requests started rolling in, and my account was filling up with flips!
I then ordered a few dvds myself, which you do by adding them to your wishlist - if they are immediately available then they are automatically requested from the person offering them, if not, you have to wait for someone to add that dvd to their library, then it will be automatically requested from them (Of course, it doesn't have to be a dvd, you can also swap games, books, cds and audiobooks).
Most of the time I have had no problems ordering the items, one time I requested something, and then the person offering it decided it was no longer available, but on the whole it is a very quick and easy process.
It costs 79p per swap, but if there are problems for some reason, like if your requested item doesn't arrive, then Hitflip refunds the flips and credit for that item saving the hassle of trying to contact the person who was supposed to send it like you have on some other sites.
There are sometimes competitions and contests to win free flips which is another good point, as you then don't always have to wait until you gain flips through swapping.
