Advantages: Offers Internet, digital TV and phone service in one package
Disadvantages: Lots, all listed in main bulk of this review
Firstly, their customer service is terrible! I have spent several times literally waiting on the phone for hours to speak to a representative.
You automatically have a 12 month contract which you cannot break even if Homechoice fail to provide you with the service you pay for.
I have had nothing but problems with Homechoice since I first had it installed 6 months ago. The service is extremely erratic and the 'set top box' switches itself off for no apparent reason which cuts off the signal which is extremely annoying if you are in the middle of watching a programme on one of the digital channels or if you are surfing or downloading from the Internet at that time.
The Homechoice digital tv package is rather disappointing and doesn't have a great selection unless you pay far more for the 'music', 'movies' packages and I believe the advertising is misleading as it shows channels in the 1mb package that are not actually included and you have to pay extra for.
The Internet connection is very slow and often cuts out.
Homechoice seems to spend a lot on flashy advertising to lure new customers yet once you are a customer, you are no longer important as they have your monthly payment guaranteed for a year (with threat of legal action if you refuse to pay).
I would recommend anyone thinking of getting Homechoice to at least check out the alternatives and research it thoroughly, as once you have committed to Homechoice you cannot end your contract for 12 agonising months, however crappy the service is. I would suggest getting a cheap set top box if you can receive Freeview which supplies far more digital TV channels than most of the 'cheap' Homechoice packages (and you only have to pay once - for the box itself).
Summary: Lots of problems with both the technical and customer support aspects. Would not recommend. F-
