Advantages: Free, internet based, simple to use, reliable

Disadvantages: Junk email, advertisments

I have had an hotmail.com account for approximately 9 years now and a check my emails daily. A hotmail account is free for anyone to open and you can choose your email address based on your name/nickname/favourite quote etc. I find hotmail easy to use as it is simple to understand for those who are technically challenged, like me! All your new emails can be found in the inbox and are highlighted, so you can see which emails are unread. In order to read the email you simply click on the email and it opens. Once you've read the email you have the options to reply to sender, reply to all (everyone the email has been sent to), forward, delete or move to folder.
One of the advantages I like about hotmail is that you can set up your own folders aside to your inbox to move your read emails into if you want to keep them. Therefore it is easy to separate your business emails from your personal emails and find old emails which you have kept should you need them again in the future.
Hotmail also has a contacts folder which stores all your contacts in one place and they are easy to view. Everytime you send an email to an email address which isn't in your contact folder, hotmail gives you the option to add this email address to your contacts for future use, which is really handy.
A main disadvantage to hotmail.com are the advertisements which are on the website which are easy to click on by mistake. Also, as I'm sure a lot of people will tell you with a hotmail account, you do get a lot of junk email. However, I doubt this can be hotmail's fault as it is likely that a lot of junk is from other companies selling your details on. Hotmail.com does have a junkmail folder, which junk email does go into rather than your inbox. The junkmail folder is emptied automatically every few days so you needn't bother reading it if you don't want to.

Overall, I would recommend hotmail.com for your email account as it is free, therefore you can access it anywhere where there is internet. It is easy to use and fairly reliable.

Summary: A reliable free email account

Good write up, but personally I'd go for Gmail every time. It costs you the price of a text nowadays, but the Junk Mail folder actually works, so you won't get emails about making various body parts larger all day long. ;)
