Advantages: Very easy to use, one of (if not the) worlds biggest, easy on the eye, safe
Hotmail.com is probably the worlds most well-known email provider, with probably a billion accounts, although I might be nowhere near, even people not so tech savvy have probably heard of it.
The site has changed a lot over the years, I have been with Hotmail for about 12 years and have never regretted it. The site now looks fresher and more easy on the eye than ever. With Hotmail being owned by MSN they kind of rebranded it, it's now known as Windows Live Hotmail, probably so people can recognise it has a Microsoft brand but I like the logo its fresh & eye catching.
The inbox page is very easy on the eye too, with plain colours and not too cluttered with adverts, it has one large long advert on one side and that's it. You have great options with Hotmail to sort out your emails, you can create 'folders' to cateogrise emails, these are listed on the left of the screen, on the main part of the page you have all your emails, new ones are highlighted slightly and feature a bold image of an unopened envelope, where as read emails have an open envelope, so its very easy to see whats new and what isnt. You can view this list by sorting it how you wish either ascending or descending by date sent, sender name, subject, size or conversation.
The junk mail filter is actually very good, sometimes I find the odd email I signed up to in there but its easy to stop that, just click 'not junk'. In reverse most of my junk mail does go in there so stops my inbox being clogged up with junk mail.
I really like Hotmail, I recommend it to everybody having being with them for about 12 years and not even bothering to try an alternative for my personal email account.
Summary: Highly recommend
