Hotmail was more than I expected from the Microsoft Corporation to be perfectly honest. The mail delivers quickly, the interface is pretty good (although you need to acquiant yourself with it). The downsides include the fact that you will almost *never* get the address you want because of all the users, the constant virus scanning of attchments means you cant just right click and "save-target-as", instead you click, wait for virus check to pass, then press download file. A little thing I know, but it can be annoying. Also, no customisable colours like another.com, which is a shame.
However, I like the incorporation of MSN messenger service, and even if the signup process is long and drawn out, there is good security, and reliability is high.
I hate to say it... Hotmail is pretty good!
