Advantages: Hours and hours and hours of fun, big fan base to discuss previous games etc.

Disadvantages: Hard to find the good games now.

One series that gets too little credit now a days is the Final Fantasy series. Although the series count is approximately 16 games, it is still going strong despite the "cool people" who don't play RPGs. Of course the series really got it's recognition from Final Fantasy VII. This was a break through for all RPGs as it was 3D, deep story and fantastic character build (even though you are left with 480758093475 unanswered questions). The next big installment to this legendary series was Final Fantasy X. This used the 'newer' technology of voice acting. It was also the first to be released for the PS2 console which made a big impact as a best seller.

If you are new to the series I recommend trying to seek out the rare Final Fantasy VII game for the PSOne or Final Fantasy 10. All of these games have different settings, characters and story lines making it a very diverse series.

If you however are more into old school RPGs, the 2D graphics and '3D' FMVs, you would shoot for the more popular Final Fantasy IV for the Gameboy SP, or final fantasy V and VI (anthology) for the PSOne as well. Of course this is a somewhat bias opinion being a long time RPG lover, but even if your into FPS, or Driving games, you could get on the level with a bigger fan base and see what all the 'Hub-Bub' is about.

Of course you cannot have a good RPG without a fantastic score to follow, series composer Nobuo Uematsu puts on a stunning performance in every game and doesn't let his fans down. These songs are so popular that even Guitar Hero fans are creating their own songs for it (eg, One Winged Angel, Ronfaure, and other themes from various games.

In closing I would say that after only 16 years on this Earth, this is by far one of the best series of all time and I do encourage any gamer of any sort from any console to check out these games and really notice the detail in environments and characters.

Summary: This series will defiantly grab a hold of you and suck you into the FF world.
