Great if you want to make a difference in what you buy!

Howies in an ethical clothes company based in Cardigan, Wales. They have shops in Carnaby St, London, Bristol and Cardigan, South Wales as well as other stockists around the country. They also showcase all their clothes in their online shop at howies.co.uk. The company was founded in 1995, and started by selling their cool t-shirts and moved on to a full range through the years. There's a great history of the brand on the website for every year they've been around.

They produce a catalogue twice a year, a big thick catalogue that tells the story of what they have been doing for the last six months and give you the new range mixed in with that, they tell you what's new, and what's improved since the last time. The catalogues are collectors style catalogues and older ones are probably quite rare.

The website is a comprehensive online shop, it has sections for men's, women's, kids, and hand-me-down in the sales part. And also brainfood, catalogue, newsletter, and info as other stuff on the website. All this is pretty easy to navigate with a simple menu at the top that stays there all the time. Under the men's and women's categories, there are sub categories for t-shirts, jeans, trousers, shorts, shirts, tops & polos, jumpers, jackets, merino, bags, accessories and stuff we love. The kids sections is separated into boys and girls.

Hand Me Down is a fairly recent addition to the howies range and website. The products are made to last for years, so you can pass them on when you have finished with them. They are guaranteed for 10 years minimum, although they should last years past that. As you can imagine they have a price tag to match, £400 for the jacket, and £125/£185/£195 for the bags. The jacket is organic cut ventile jacket lined with tweed with lots of pockets. I bought a Messenger Bag, which is canvas (got mine in blue not red as on the website) and real leather strap. It's a big satchel style bag with a laptop pocket and plenty of space for other bits and pieces. There are plenty of aluminium buckles to secure it. It is truly very well made and sits well on my back and does hold plenty of stuff with pockets galore.

All of Howies cotton based products only use organic cotton, most are made in Portugal. All of this information is shown on each product page so you can refer to it easily. They have a large selection of Merino wool products, sweats, tees, and boxers all seem to be from Fiji. They do sell some other organic wool products, although I can't find any on the website as present. They do manufacture they're products all round the world but they do so as ethically as possible.

They concentrate on their t-shirts, which is what they started with from day one, and probably also the biggest seller from any clothes website. They have a range of standard tshirts with Howies written on them, and then they have loads of custom designs, mostly limited editions prints that sell out pretty quickly on the website. They have a "T Shirt of the Month" from their favourite designs.

They tend to have two sales a year, usually just before the next catalogue is due out. They're usually up to 50% off. You can also find some good discount codes for up to 20% off and free delivery, well worth searching the internet before purchashing. Delivery is usually via Parcel Force and with you in a few days. Returns are free via courier.
