Advantages: Can be paid in £, highest rates for email, get to give some feedback on the site, interesting and unusual sites

Disadvantages: poor referal payment

Paid to read email schemes are popping up all over the place these days. One of the best newcomers has to be htmail.com.

Concept
It's slightly different from the others in that instead of just clicking a link in the email, viewing and then shutting the page you have to actually have a quick squizz around the site in order to provide the advertiser with some useful feedback.

It's pretty easy really. When you click the link in the email the advertisers page opens, when that has loaded another page opens too. This is the htmail feedback and confirmation page. Just enlarge the advertisers page first, take in the info then fill in the feedback form.

The form is really simple and only has about 10 questions, half of which are multiple choice! You're asked what you liked most, what you didn't like, how you'd rate the site's content, if you purchased, if you'd visit again etc. Nothing too tricky! Once you've filled it in you submit your information and then shut the page. An email is sent to you confirming that your information has been received.

With the usual sites that email schemes send, generally advertising an American competition site, I tend to click the link and close the site without giving it a second look. This is where htmail is different. The sites are actually interesting and very varied. One of the most recent sites was an online medical directory, although the format wasn't brilliant the content was fabulous and I've book marked it!

More often than not I start testing the links and give it a really good going over before I give any feedback. Looking at the sites is not so much a task as a joy. It's really nice to be able to give a bit of constructive criticism in the hope of helping these sites.

Payment
Your paid 15 pence for your troubles. Yep, that's right Htmail.com is one of the few email schemes that will pay you in British pounds! You
can opt to be paid in American dollars. If you chose to do so you are paid 24 cents for giving feedback on a website.

You can chose not to view the website and just get paid for viewing the email. For this you will earn 5 pence/8 cents and must simply click on a link in the email to confirm your receipt of the message.

Joining
This is fairly simple and has pretty much the same strucure as other companies e.g. give your name, email address, email address of referer if appropriate, chose type of payment - you can be paid in British pounds or American dollars, you can start receiving cheques for as little as £10 or as much as £100!

Something I really liked about this was the fact that you didn't have to chose a certain number of subjects that you would like to be mailed about, instead you are given three lists of five subjects, the first is something like shopping, travel, sport, gambling and making money, all you ahve to do is chose one of these to be mailed about. This is so much easier than most sites where you have to spend ages counting the number of options you have selected etc

You are also asked a few questions e.g. do you smoke, do you own a car.

There is also a section on your job and position at work which requires a little more effort, but you can chose to leave this blank.

As per usual you can make money from referals, however I was slightly disappointed with the referal pay. You recieve a mere 1 pence everytime a referal of yours visits a website.

One final difference with htmail is that you can also get paid for "snail mail" You will be paid 3 pence for every piece of mail sent to you buy an advertiser and 1 pence for post recieved by your referals.

You have the option to decline this offer.

I have not had any yet but I wuld imagine that any post you may recieve might be quite interesting and I look forward to seeing what offers are available. r>
I have not yet recieved a cheque so I cannot comment on the speed of payment, but you can choose to cash in at any time.

The money does mount up quickly with this one. I have been a member for under a fortnight and already have £2! Not a vast sum, but compared to the other email schemes that's excellent! I also enjoyed earning the money!

Ooh yes, must mention that a small summary of your account is left at the bottom of every email you recieve. I think that this is a nice touch because it means you don't have to visit the site very often. you are told how many emails you ahve recieved, how many you ahve been paid for, how much money your referals have made you and how much you have in your account!

If you're going to join an email scheme, this is the one to join!
