Advantages: Good web site

Disadvantages: its americanised and a bit BROWN!

When you take your first steps into HTML, a lot of people get nervous after seeing the big void that lies ahead.
Some take the easy option by using drag and drop editors like Interdvev, Homesite, Frontpage, etc. While its nice and simple, it does not give you the flexibility and creativity that hard coding can.
This requires the user to code manually.....Daunting!
Well, not really. ANYTHING you want to learn about from Knitting to Programming can be found on the modern web.
SO if you want to start from the very beginning in HTML and cant be bothered to buy a book, you need an online resource.
Where better to start than at htmlgoodies.
The web address is:
http://www.htmlgoodies.com/
Its completely free too!
They cater for all levels of learning whether you are coding your first page, learning the different meanings of tags or requiring to find a complex script for your web project.
HTML goodies has it all.
Not only does it explain things in simple english, but it has examples and graphical representations for you to understand better.
If you want you can subscribe to the free goodies news letter that keeps you up to date with all the latest gossip and developments in the IT industry.
Great for news on big companies having new products on the market or new tecnologies being released.
I think this is a great place to start for beginners and experts alike.
Try it.

By the way, it being "Americanised" (or should that be Americanized y'all!) is probably a good thing...

don' ;t want to be putting "colour" in your tags now do you? got to remember it's "color" followed by your hex code...

Ahhh, glad to see there are still some good tutorials out there (anyone who utters the obscenity "Microsoft FrontPage" in my direction is in for a slap!)

Being in the process of coding a site at the moment, what I could really do with is some free Java applets... unfortunately there's no such thing as a "free" Java applet... so I'll stick to long drawn out JavaScripts thanks!

One day I'll improve my "real" Java too...

Thanks for the tip. I've been using pagemill but I wanted a little more to get my teeth into.
Cheers.
