icanhascheezburger.com is the home of lolcats. Some of you may be wondering, "what the heck are lolcats?" Well, they're kind of like normal cats, except they talk, in misspelt, internet "geek speak", the kind you see on message boards, like 4chan.

It all started when the creator of the website, Eric Nakagawa uploaded onto the internet the first ever lolcat, a picture of a grey cat, called Happycat, asking the world "I can has cheezburger?" Since then, thousands upon thousands of other lolcats joined Happycat, and there is now a worldwide community of lolcats and their devotees.

What happens is someone, say me, sees a cat doing something silly, like trying to eat a wasp. I of course, want to bestow global humiliation on the cat, so I grab my camera, take a photograph, and then scan/upload it on to the computer. Next, I think of a caption along the lines of "Dis taests funneh". The last stage of course, is uploading the picture onto the website, with the caption and await a stream of comments underneath. The cat has now become a lolcat.

Each photograph on the website usually commands about seventy comments each, which are usually from total cheezburger fans, replying to the cat with comments like "kitteh need nom noms".

It does sound quite sad now I'm writing about it, but it's one way of killing/wasting some time. Some of the pictures have had me laughing for minutes, and some are utterly adorable.

The website has a very useful search facility. Some suggested searches for you; Hovercat is hovering (my personal favourite), monorail cat and ceiling cat.

The lolcat language can appear daunting at first but you soon pick it up.

Of course, there aren't just lolcats on there, the website includes all animals; you also have loldogs, and even lolsquirrels. The website also has links to its sister websites, such as the hilarious failblog.

For me it's a good way to unwind after a stressful day, it's a little pick-me-up and the photographs are good for showing to friends. Plus I'm a cat lover and I sort of see it as getting a "fix"!
