Advantages: All your info in one easily accessible place
Disadvantages: Some of the infoboxes have adverts on them
iGoogle had been my homepage for some time now and I would heartily recommend it to everybody who wants information pertinant to themselves available at a glance.
The great thing about it is that you can customize it to add information that you need, change the layout to suit and there are a myraid of infoboxes and skins you can add. You can also add tabs to group infoboxes with different themes.
I currently have one general tab that it opens on and a tab that has money market information on that I use when at work.
My main page has boxes for BBC news and sport headlines, a fancy clock/calander, Google Reader (monitors RSS feeds from your favourite blogs), An IP tracker, local weather and a couple of comic strips.
My money market tab monitors the FTSE and Nasdaq and commodity prices like gold and oil.
The page also the market leading search engine built in with easy access to their image and maps searches as well.
Add in their web based e-mail service, Gmail, and you have a complete package.
The good thing about having all this info in one place on your homepage is that you can easily flick back to it by hitting the home icon (a little house icon on the top bar on Internet Explorer or Firefox or on Internet Explorer you can use the key shortcut Alt+M and then Return.
Summary: The only homepage you will need.
