Advantages: Highly in-depth and usable
Disadvantages: Ratings system often skewed
IMDb.com is a fantastic resource on the internet for all film officiandos.
The site contains details on thousands of films and actors, including films that are to be released in the future.
Firstly, I will detail the positives from this site:
The website is easy to use first and foremost. There is a clear way to search the site on the homepage, and there are daily links posted up to interesting film related news. The search function, which is the most important on the site, is quick and efficient, thus making the site easy to navigate.
Secondly, the site is very extensive. I am yet to know of a film that is not on there, it is a fantastic resource therefore to solve those squabbles you have with mates, or just for gaining information on your favourite films.
However, there are also some downsides. Firstly, each film is rated out of 10 and these ratings are often not the most accurate. As there is no 'vetting' of what people vote and no distinction from critical review, the ratings are often skewed. This is partially combatted by a clickable breakdown of votes by gender and age, so for example a film like high school musical is likely to gain a fairly high rating due to the high degree of teenage girls that are rating the film 10/10, which, in all honesty it isn't. So if you're looking for an accurate rating system to try and pick a film to watch on a night in this may not be the best place.
Having said all that, the rating system is all subjective, and everyone is entitled to their opinions. The site is a great resource and one that is enjoyable viewing.
Summary: A fantastic site full of useful film info, but the ratings system is flawed slightly
