Advantages: Wealth of info, many features, films and TV

Disadvantages: Top 250 is always a bit rubbish, undeveloped films slow to be removed

The Internet Movie Database (or IMDb) is, for me, the reason the internet exists. It is a huge goldmine of film-and-television-related information, from the classics to the hottest new releases, taking in every obscure film you can think of on the way.

Besides the abundance of film trivia, news and trailers, there are listings for actors, directors, musicians, producers, studios - you name it, the IMDb has a wealth of info on it. Want to find out if Marlon Brando ever starred with Humphrey Bogart? There's a feature that lets you check if listed people worked together. Can't quite remember how the 'Do you feel lucky' speech from Dirty Harry should go? There's pages of quotes for each film or show.

You can spend hours at a time browsing the site, rating and learning about the people behind the films you love, or check the news page every day for celebrity news and gossip. There is also a large community on their forums.

If any fault can be found with it, it is that there are often many films listed as 'In Development' that fall through and take a while to be removed from the site, and entry into the Top 250 list is hardly indicative of what makes a film a classic - but these problems are not necessarily IMDb's problems.

In all, it is an excellent site, and it is responsible for at least 70% of my film trivia knowledge!
