Advantages: Quickly find the answer to your queries

I love imdb for its wealth of movie and tv series information available all in one place. You can search by the film or series title or actor name and read all about that, and then click on links for example to see what else a particular actor had starred in. You can rate ones you have seen, and decide whether to see a new film based on others ratings and reviews. As well as films it also covers many tv series, both US and UK

As well as the typical information about actors, directors etc. there are plot synopsis, reviews and a message board for ever page. This means that you can chat to, and ask questions of people who are specifically interested in that film/ series/ actor and some people on there can help with quite specific queries.

Some pages have more information than others. For example many of the actors' pages do not yet have a picture of them. Some of the more popular films or series, however, have some interesting additional information such as goofs and trivia.

Imdb will come in useful in quickly answering any film or tv related question, such as who starred in.......? or who directed....? It is also useful for those infuriating 'where else have I seen him before?' moments. Alternatively, if you want to spend a bit longer finding about your favourites there is the additional information and the excellent message boards.
