A useful site for tracking down limited black metal releases

Insidious Poisoning Records is a very small black metal record label and associated webstore based in France. The record label itself is nothing to write home about as they have only a handful of obscure releases out to date, although these do include releases by Lyrinx, a promising UK black metal band who play in the depressive/shoegaze style of Trist and Hypothermia.

Insidious Poisoning's mailorder catalogue is very large however, and consists exclusively of black metal releases and nothing else. Though they carry the obligatory bigger bands like Darkthrone and Gorgoroth, the majority of the catalogue is given over to rare and obscure titles, and there are usually some good finds awaiting anyone prepared to work their way through the long list of titles, which can be downloaded in both Word and Adobe Acrobat formats.

The prices are reasonable if not particularly cheap, generally hovering around the 11 euro mark plus postage, although there are also numerous bargains on offer for as little as 4 euros. In addition to cds the site also stocks a fair number of stricly limited vinyls as well as cassette tapes, tshirts and obscure music zines, although some of these are in French. The site is simple but well laid out, although it does use some rather small fonts that can be a pain to read. The main problem is with postage, which adds a minimum of another 3 or 4 euros to each order, making the order totals often fairly expensive unless items are ordered in bulk, in which case postage rates are better value, with small discounts also available for large orders. It may be worthwhile getting postal insurance however, as the site takes no responsibility for items that are lost in the post, although this of course puts the overall price up yet further. They dont take credit cards, although they do accept paypal, bank transfers, or posted cash or postal orders.

Whilst Insidious Poisoning is a useful site for tracking down limited items on cd and vinyl, and they have proved very friendly, helpful and reliable in my dealings with them, it might be worth checking out UK based distributor Supernal Music first however, as they tend to sell similar items at a much cheaper price, and with lower postage costs too. Should you not be able to find the release you are looking for from a UK seller however, Insidious Poisoning is a good alternative.
