I’ve always been a practical joker. I seem to derive a sick pleasure out of playing pranks on people. I used to do it at school and now I wind people up at work. There are various websites that provide an engine for practical jokes but there is one that I discovered recently that is dedicated to it!! It comes from the drink maker Irn-Bru and is not only full of jokes but has various other goodies for your enjoyment!

The website itself is very well laid out and easy to navigate and coming from Irn-Bru has a very bright orange and blue colour scheme. It even has music to play in the background whilst you are cooking up your next prank! The front page contains links to various sections in the site as well as a search function and the ability to suggest a new spoof. As well as out and out pranks, the site is also full of downloads, some amusing and some just crazy. To give you some idea of what kind of things you can find on the site, I’ll do a resume of each of the main sections.

~~ Going back to school can be cool ~~

This section is dedicated to pranks that can be played in school. There is a sub section called Satchel Spoofs, which gives you ideas of various things that you can put in your school bag. The emphasis here is on water bombs and the like – those were the days! The next sub section is IT Class-ics and as the name suggests gives ideas on how to make the IT teacher’s hair go grey and worry your friends. Various suggestions include such things as changing prompts to black on black and changing default system sounds to suspect noises that will draw attention! There are also a few downloads, such as fake file deletion programmes and error messages. The last part is a download of an Irn-Bru alert button, which can alert you to various things.

~~ Skewy Screens ~~

This is a section containing various screensavers and desktop functions that will provide amusement. You will find such things a
s screen savers that can make your eyes water and a program that can swap all your icons around so that you are never clicking on the right thing – how I’d love to get that one on to my boss’ laptop!

~~ How to lose friends and insult people ~~

A dedication to insults here! There are various insult generators up for grabs, with themes varying from outer space and Shakespearean to the Renaissance! There is even a prank call generator with various voices to use.

~~ Desktop fiends ~~

Why not download a nice bird to sit on your desktop……it would be personalised, right? That is until it insults you! There are various similar themes here including a cat and sheep. They even have a mouse pointer on Viagra – I’ll leave it to your imagination to work out what it does!

~~ Spoofware & Waste Paper ~~

These two sections seem pretty similar to me. They are both the kind of thing I like, which is downloads of various stupid little programmes that always get a giggle. Here you can find things such as IQ tests, band name generators, programmes that analyse the way you think (I think I made it malfunction) and something that tells you how long you have until retirement – and I mean exactly how long! There are even some programmes that are quite helpful, such as one that randomly changes your wallpaper every time you log in.

~~ You’ve been blamed (my personal favourite) ~~

This is where the real windups begin! No silly programs that just get a quick giggle to be found here! This is how you can really windup your friends. Although it has to be said that they must be quite gullible if they fall for it, because some of the windups are a bit far fetched! Basically what happens is that you select a category of prank, and then fill out a form about the person that you are targeting. This enables them to use personalised information to make it more believable.
The 6 categories are: Geek squeak, Hygiene scream, Double Park Lark, Phoney Coney, Win Spin and Work Quirk.

By way of example, I played Phoney Coney on my work colleague. It asks you for their name, email address and then a location near to where they live. You then select from various ridiculous objects such as traffic cones, phone boxes etc. An email is sent to them from the police accusing them of stealing one, and saying that CCTV footage in the area you specified backs it up. They click on a hyperlink to “make their payment” and then get various drop down boxes to choose from. If they hadn’t guessed that it was a windup before this point then they will now, because the answers are very amusing. Eg: It asks “How do you plead” to which your response can be “Guilty” “Very Guilty” “Guilty like a fox” and “Stitched up” Another question is “How many times do I have to tell you not to do that?” Answers are either, once, twice, three times, or a lady!!! When they submit, they are told of the prank and offered the chance to play one on you in return!

In conclusion, if you like to play jokes on people and know anyone that is gullible then this is an ideal site. Alternatively if you are just looking for some funnies for your computer, it does the job nicely too!
