Advantages: A mystic meg style monthly sun sign horoscope

Disadvantages: It is very difficult to evaluate an astrology service without having used it.

I, mystic zebra, predict that there is a strong possibility that if you pay £10 for a new lover chart Ivarna will indeed say that you will. The home page of Ivarna.com, coloured black with fuschia pink fonts, informs you that Ivarna is a professional consultant in traditional astrology and a specialist in relationships, soulmates and karma.

According to the main page the services offered come under the following areas: Soulmates, Horoscopes, Astrology, and Karma. When I first looked at the site there was also a section called Angels which is no longer there although there is a service available to find your angel, listed elsewhere.

The pages on the site are not consistent either in layout or colour and for this reason it is a bit confusing to navigate. The overall impression the site gives is rather amateurish. When I first visited the site there were several links which led to pages stating Sorry these pages are no longer available. I find this sort of message infuriating. If the pages are no longer available why bother to have links to them?

This section explains:

Your Soulmate described in a fascinating, accurate guide to your future life partner, lover, Soulmate. A thorough description of your soulmate's appearance; face, hair colour, a full portrayal of the character, astonishing personal glimpse of his, or her, background. Extending to around 15 or more pages of genuine, predictive astrology.
Soul Mate Chart

Ivarna gives an example of how a soul mate chart is analysed. There is a thumbnail chart on the page and when enlarged you discover it is for someone called Tony rather than Peter, but it does appear to be the chart Ivarna has written about.

The explanation given was confusing, and not exactly what I understand by 'traditional' astrology. Perhaps I should explain that in professional astrology there are two main schools of thought concerning astrology: the m
odern psychological approach and the traditional one which is based largely on William Lilly and medieval astrology. Traditional astrology does not use the outer planets, Neptune, Pluto and Uranus and the explanation of chart analysis given by Ivarna was based very much on Neptune and Pluto.

Ivarna offers three different soulmate charts priced at £25, £30 and £35. I found her explanation of the differences quite confusing; soulmate 1 is an in depth chart of up to 15 pages, soulmate 2 is a more in depth chart of the same length and soulmate 3 of which she says
I should point out that although the reading you receive will be of the same high standard as Soulmate Two, it may be shorter, as this is quite advanced chart analysis it is time consuming work, yet the results can be startling and quite revealing.

I first visited the site on 9th August 2002 and the Horoscope page said : Your stars for August 2002 'are being prepared, sorry for the delay'. This is really quite unprofessional. It would be possible to prepare the charts well in advance - that is the beauty of astrology. However, I tried again on 11th and they were up. The horoscopes for the month are strangely different from the norm more in the style of a Mystic Meg than anything else. But this is perhaps only to be expected as Ivarna claims to be a psychic too.

The Cancer Horoscope said

Now is the time to fight for what you want in a firm but forceful way.. You have the support of others, and a very friendly environment around you. who like your methods of getting things done. Travel to a place with an old hump back bridge and a peaceful beautiful scene, trees and village or old town will refresh you and stir the desire for travel further afield in the later future. en and you'll find that it will have come true at least in part.

This quite amused me and I visualised thousands of Cancerians on old hump back bridges across the country making wishes.

And, in my opinion, it continues to 'waffle' on for the rest of the page.

The Astrology page is similar in content to the soulmate page but the 'full list' link at the top of the page has different prices and readings than in the 'shop'. I think my main concern with the astrology charts was the fact that if you don?t know your actual time of birth Ivarna offers chart rectification for only £5. Now chart rectification is a very time consuming and difficult process and most professional astrologers charge quite a high fee for this so I would be very suspicious of what you would get for such a bargain price.

I rather get the impression that Ivarna will tell you something you want to hear. The statement,You are a deep feeling person who has not yet found lasting happiness, will probably apply to everyone who wants a soul mate chart.

Having had a good look at several of the sections I decided it was not really worth checking out the Karma section.

Conclusion

What concerns me most about Ivarna is the lack of information about the astrologer. A genuine astrologer is more likely to use their real name and not hide behind a fancy pseudonym.

Although people may have genuine reasons for wanting to remain anonymous on the Internet I might be suspicious of any site which claims to be professional, charges for services and yet hides behind a pseudonym and doesn't have a real contact address. This applies to any type of site not just astrology.

It is possible to get formal qualifications in astrology and I would expect a really good professional astrologer to at the very least show some affiliation w
ith one of the national or international institutions. If you are really interested in having chart reading of any kind my advice would be to contact one of the main Astrology Institutes to ask for a local astrologer or to use one of the more professional astrology web sites such as www.findastrologer.com which lists professional qualified astrologers by type and location.
