Ixquick.com doesn't exactly roll off the tongue and that could have been one of the reasons it has never been known as a major search engine. The site works as a meta search which is to say that it collects data from other search engines across the web and places them in what it believes to be an accurate order. A common problem with such sites is that their results are fraught with sponsored listings, often quite irrelevant and definitely annoying. A meta search engine is one which runs your search simultaneously through a number of individual search engines. As the name Ixquick suggests it is indeed quick, but this is not the only advantage of this search engine. Ixquick is a meta-based search engine similar to metacrawler or dogpile.
