Advantages: 835 different javascripts, complete with instructions and examples
Disadvantages: Each script includes a link back to their website, site is difficult to navigate.
I use Java Script quite regularly when requested to add dynamic effects and facilities on to web sites that I design by my clients. Although I have quite a large collection of scripts on my hard disk, quite often it is neccessary to go out on a search for a particular one you may not have yourself. Javascript.com is part of the internet.com webmaster's portal, offering a wide range of tools to web authorers. The actual address where all the scripts are located is javascript.internet.com although javascript.com is a 'front page' linking to the site. The website contains 835 different scripts. They are all listed alphabetically, on individual pages, or can be reviewed in one long list, although it takes ages for the page to download if you select that option. The site also offers a search facility, although I don't find it very 'smart' in finding what I want. The best part of this site is, once you have found the script you are looking for from within the long list of different ones, is the page dedicated to that script. Each script's page includes a set of easy-to-follow instructions, an example of how the script works and a cut-and-paste box for you to cut-and-paste the script from, into your HTML editor. One downside is that the script you cut-and-paste includes a link back to their site, which is displayed on your own page once inserted. However, with a little bit of skill, you can simply remove these from the scripts, although that is actually breaking the licence to use them. This maybe be a difficult site to navigate yourself around, but I think it's the best javascript resource online. I have yet to find another site with such a wide range of different scripts.
