Kids websites are corrupted by porn (Kids Websites in general)

Advantages: they are great if you have a particular web address

Disadvantages: searching on the web throws up porn sites

I have a 14 month old son , so there is no fear of him using the internet just yet ..... but I also have two step children who are aged 12 and 9. They come to us every weekend and are always asking to go on the internet. At first it wasn't too bad because they had particular websites that they wanted to visit. Either from one of their kids magazines, or from a kids tv programme. But the problems started to occur when they wanted to do a search for a general topic. For example ....... the 9 year old ( who is a girl ) , wanted to look up about Bambi as she had been reading the Bambi story at school. Well , what can I say but oh my god , you can imagine what the search threw up. Porn porn and more porn. We have a filter on our computer but no matter what it would still come up. When I looked into it further, things like Cinderella and Barbie would also have the same problem. What a nightmare. In the end we would only let them on the computer if they had a web address, and no more searching for them !! Beware what your kids are looking at.

Summary: In my experience it is so hard to protect your children from porn on the web
