Advantages: Adequate amount of info
Disadvantages: Home page is a little crowded
Lidl.co.uk
The Homepage of this website looks a little crowded with all the ads of different products on it, yet it is not annoying in anyway, and the dominant yellowish colour in it is not irritating. Four main tabs can be found on the top of the homepage, and on the right side of the page there are some useful links.
The first and the most important tab on top is the specials which can be found in the store twice a week; every Monday and Thursday. One thing you should know about LIDL specials is that you cannot know them until you give your postcode. This does not mean that you have to register with the site, but giving the postcode allows you to know what the specials are in the LIDL store closest to you. Once you have given your postcode you can see the current specials in Lidl in addition to the specials you will find in the following week. Choosing one of the products enlisted, you will be given sufficient information about it in addition to its price. Not only the specials are included in this section of the website, but also the products which are sold at a cheaper price in Lidl, but from what I know these are only a small part from the cheaper prices which are offered in Lidl. Visiting the store, you'll find numerous cheaper items, and some of these can be vegetables and fruits which are sold for half price at times, but this is not mentioned in the website. In addition to Specials and Cheaper, another page called Tried and Tested shows certain products that were chosen by some magazines as best buys, but don't always trust this, for I know at least one of these products to be terrible.
The second tab is called Service and it includes less important information, but still I checked it myself previously, and not just when I was writing this review. It includes small sections about the company and its history, that they accept debit cards only (and cash, but not credit cards), information about the refund policy and the opening hours. In this section of the website also you can subscribe to the free newsletter which will tell you about the coming specials, find a store locator, frequently asked questions, and a phone number in case you want to inquire about something. Surprisingly, I remember reading the frequently asked questions about why Lidl does not provide baskets and why they charge for the carrier bags.
The third tab is careers for those who want to work for Lidl, and the fourth is the Property section in which the regional office details can be found for the sites in which Lidl wants to buy new stores.
Moving to more interesting sections, on the right side of the homepage you find links to Lidl recipes, Dulano, Fairglobe, weekly newsletter, specials, and store locator. Choosing recipes takes you to www.lidl-recipes.co.uk in which you find many appetizing gourmet, Asian, Italian, Vegetarian, BBQ dishes, etc. The truth is I haven't tried any of them yet, but I advise you to take a look at them for they look lovely. As for www.lidl-dulano.co.uk, it stands for the different kinds of sausages, salami and cooked meats including pork, ham, chicken and turkey that can be bought from Lidl only, but as I can see all is provided in this website is how these products look, with no information about them or about their prices. Finally, www.lidl-fairglobe.co.uk is for the range of fair-trade products which can be bought from Lidl like coffee, juice, and bananas, but again, the information about them is not sufficient.
The website is worth checking only if you do your shopping in Lidl and find their specials interesting, for the website is mainly about the specials, and probably about the recipes as well, but the rest is just not informative enough.
Summary: The specials section is good.
