Advantages: Re-live those golden days when you didn't have a worry in the world
Disadvantages: 'Tut' to yourself as you compare the masterpieces of the past with the rubbish that kids watch on TV these days (and sound incredibly old into the bargain!)
listen.to/80stvthemes [Background: If you're ever in the mood for a blast of nostalgia, then this website may be just for you. Consisting predominantly of theme tunes for British children's programmes of yesteryear, this site is a positive goldmine of long forgotten shows such as Chorlton and the Wheelies, and Will O' The Wisp] If all the re-runs on the plethora of obscure cable and digital channels aren't enough for you, then it's about time you paid a visit to the great website at http://listen.to/80stvthemes (no need for the 'www' bit in this web address). Basically, this site has collected together the themes, and a few other relevant sound and video clips, from a vast array of great kids shows from the 1980s. Programmes have been sorted into five alphabetical sections, and are then listed in alphabetical order within each of these sections. Sound files have been made available in a variety of formats, but appear to be predominantly Real Audio, .WAV or .MP3 files. Unlike sites like Napster and mp3.com the files are all reasonably manageable to download, and at approximately 150Kb each should download in well under a minute on most connection speeds. An incredible 173 programmes are listed, and this figure continues to grow. You could literally spend hours downloading and playing all the themes that were once part of the very fabric of your childhood. However, a note of caution - as files appear to have been taken directly from source, or sometimes from relevant cassette or CD compilations, it states on the site that "the sounds are for evaluation purposes only - copyright laws state that you must delete files from your system within 24 hours". Although, quite how many visitors to the site adhere to this plea is questionable The site has a useful link up to the Blackstar website (www.blackstar.co.uk) who stock video compilations for many of the old progr
ammes that are featured. Additional links on the site include other websites that specialise in TV tunes, a message board, and a selection of themed e-greetings cards. Altogether this is a compact website that provides a great opportunity to delve back into your childhood. The range of theme music is impressive, although additional information on these programmes is only very brief. However, the downloads should keep you entertained for hours while you revisit your formulative years. {An original Dooyoo opinion by Blackjane - 2000}
