Advantages: apparently reasonable theatre & dinner packages if you get what you paid for

Disadvantages: bad customer service, complete disregard for consumer rights, unfair contract terms

If you are planning to book any packages from this company beware !

I purchased a meal and theatre package as a christmas present for my in-laws, the date of the booking was 27th December.

However upon arriving at the restaurant my in-laws found it was closed and were forced to go and pay for a meal at another restaurant. They weren't bothered about this as we were confident that after contacting LondonTheatreDirect.com and explaining they would do the decent thing and refund the extra cost.

How wrong can you be.

They simply replied that they would refund £20 which is what the negotiated a meal deal cost them and that if I wanted the rest I had to take it up myself with the restaurant.

Unhappy with this response I took advice and was told that as they were in breach of contract in that I hadn't got what I paid for I was entitled to claim reimbursement for the alternative meal.

Furthermore if you do decide to book anything with this company their terms and conditions try to limit your statutory rights by accepting no responsibility if an event is cancelled. So if you book and pay for show tickets and for some reason the show doesn't go ahead you wont get any money back.

I also took advice on these contract terms and was told told that they breach The Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977 and The Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999.

However LondonTheatreDirect.com are not interested in resolving the matter.

Although the amount of money I want to claim back is only small this has now become a matter of principle and I intend to take action against them in the small claims court.

In the meantime trading standards are investigating their contract terms.

My advice is steer well clear of this company they might seem to offer reasonable deals but they couldn't give a stuff about consumer law or their customers.

I have bought tickets from this company many many many times and have found them always to be courteous, friendly and polite at all times. i wonder whether this customer has taken matters further, or as i am guessing, the staff at londontheatredirect.com have no doubt resolved what is most likely a customer error. i wonder whether she can provide us with an update?
