Advantages: Convienient, no late fees.

We all know what a pain movie & game rental can be - you trek down to your local Blockbuster (or other local video store), only to find you've lost your membership card & have to sign up again (at which point you probably need a utility bill, a credit card statement, a driving licence etc etc). Then you wander round trying to suss out the offers, eventually find something you vaguely want to watch, take it home.....and then forget to take it back, meaning you rack up a big fine..... What a hassle!

However, with the invention of internet movie rental sites, such as Lovefilm, rental need not be a hassle. Lovefilm is the biggest site of it's kind in the UK, with a choice of over 65,000 movies & games to choose from. Once you've signed up, you just need to add which movies/games you want to receive in your wishlist, set an order of preference & Lovefilm do the rest!

Lovefilm recommend you add at least 10 unique titles to your list. These are sent out in order of preference, depending which are in stock at the time. Usually you are not waiting long to receive your top titles since they keep high stock levels of popular titles. Your movies & games are sent first class, with a first class returns envelope. As soon as they receive them back, they dispatch your next title(s). You keep the discs as long as you want, no late fees apply, but in order to maximise an unlimited package, I recommend a prompt turnaround. It really couldn't be easier.

Various packages are available (see lovefilm.com for prices). You can opt whether to have 1, 2, or 3 titles at a time (on the unlimited rental packages), or just opt for a set amount each month. Games can also be rented for a small additional charge. Blu-ray discs are also available.

New customers can enjoy a free 2week trial. If you cancel your account at any time, wait a month or so & they will usually send a voucher entitling you to a further free period to try & coax you back.

The only drawback to the service is that it is dependant on Royal Mail. I've never had any discs go completely astray, but have had some take an exceptionally long time to arrive/return.

Many retailers also offer online rental now. in most cases these will be powered by Lovefilm, so you'll get the same service. You may however find that prices are cheaper through other retailers, so it's worth shopping around first.

Summary: Beats blockbuster & co. hands down...
