I first heard about Lovefilm.com after seeing the tv advert a few years ago. From the information given on the advert, it sounded like a brilliant service, but it wasn't until about a year later that i actually decided to have a look at the website and actually join.

Basically, Lovefilm.com is like Blockbuster but online. Its a service which lets you rent DVDs, blu-rays and games.

Heres how it works, first you sign up. You add all the basic information such as name, address etc. Then you have to select the different option which will suit you best. There is a basic option which allows you to rent two DVDs/games a month but only having one at a time. This costs just under £4 a month. There are then several options ranging from just under £6 a month letting you have 3 DVDs a month, all the way up to just under £17 for 10 rentals a month.

When you sign up for the first time, you get 2 weeks free trial to see if you like the service. If you don't like it, you can cancel any time, and if you cancel within the 2 free weeks, you won't have to pay a penny.

Lovefilm.com has a huge range of dvds and games to select from, including many boxsets. They have had everything i have ever looked for.
When you find something you want you also select the priority of the DVD. By this i mean how soon you want the dvd, do you want it sending as soon as possible, or are you not in any rush for it. It doesn't matter which you select as you can change it anytime until the rental has been sent.
Rentals are sent by Royal Mail first class standard delivery which means you don't have to sign anything, so don't worry if you will be out. The rentals come in a special paper envelope which doubles up as the return envelope. As long as you open it the correct way, it allows you to tear one part off leaving you with a new envelope with the return address on.

You can keep the rentals at home as long as you want as there are no late fees. Of course you can't keep the rentals for ever as Lovefilm will charge you, but they will contact you first. I once had a DVD for over a month and they didn't bother at all.

Depending which option you are with, if you have several DVDs/games ordered, if you have any at home (the highest amount you can have at one time), they will not send any more rentals to you until you return any current ones you have.

Like i said earlier, you can cancel your account anytime and payment will stop straight away. If you do decide to cancel, Lovefilm will keep hold of your information, so if you ever decide to sign up again, you won't have to start filling everything in again so if you are going on holiday for a month, you can close your account and just open it back up when you get back home, so you won't be charged while you're away.

As well as rentals, there is also a shop on the site. I have only bought a couple of items from the shop, but they have always been great prices and there are often great offers of items. In the shop, as well as DVDs, Blu-rays and games, there is also a selection of electronics including digital camera and home cinema systems. This area of the online shop is still fairly new and at present does not have a high selection of products.
Items bought are delivered with free postage.

I am really glad i signed up to Lovefilm.com as i've never looked back. Its a great way to rent films if you don't want to buy them or if you want to watch the first few episodes of a series to see if you will like it all for great prices. I recommend anyone who is thinking about it to give the service a go and if you do not like it, then just cancel anytime.
